Standard d on a 7 string.. string gauge?

dudes what string gauge would you recommend for standard d?? my friend just got an rg1527 (with bk pups) and wants to kno... he prefers the lower strings to be slightly tighter and the high strings to be lil looser..

the faster i find out for him, the faster ill be able to use his ax.. so plz help me!!!

oh ya and he also wants to know what tunin and gauges guys like vai, petrucci, cooley, etc use too... any idea?

As in ADGCFAD or DGCFADG? D standard with an extra low string or an extra high string?

the guys from korn use .010-.060 gauged strings for such tuning.

I use 11-49 and a 64 for the low A
Although if he likes a lighter feel he might be better going for 10-46 and a 59 or 60 as aeronaut said.

Id try a 9-68 personally

10-52 set plus a 68. Works really well for me, and keeps those lower stringsa nice and tight

um isn't that standard A?

anyway, 10-52, then 60 or 58 for low A works awesome. my fav is a 58 cause the tone changes very very lil from 52 to a 58 where as every other 7 the low B or A starts to sounds much darker than the brighter 6 strings and i very much HATE that.

I use 10-70 on standard B-E tuning

...at least on my Hellraiser C7. Then on my Carvin DC727 I use 10-60 for the same tuning.

7 string A is ADGCFAD ... all the same notes as D standard with a low A.
standard A is ADGCEA
