Hey folks,

One of my fav guitars is my Suhr Modern 7 Custom. It's basically the Guthrie signature specs in a 7 string, with the required changes - Floyd trem, locking nut, HH, etc.

What is the value of these beasts these days?

I can't help but wonder if the value might be high enough to strategically turn one guitar into two (maybe two more common 6 stringers..).

Could be wishful thinking, but you never know. What do you think?

Depends entirely on how fast you're trying to move the guitar. More upscale 7s like a J Custom Ibby or an EBMM JP7 can sell for 2000-2500 CAD in most cases. That's probably the base range you're looking at.

A bespoke boutique guitar like a Suhr can sell for more but you'll have to find the right buyer who wants to pay in the 3K range for the guitar. Could find someone quick, could take a year.

Where the hell are you buying J Customs and EBMM JP's for $2k-2500 in Canada??!

Not a chance. You'd be lucky to pull one for less than $3k, then add a couple hundred for shipping and then 13% on top for import duty.

Absolutely a chance, considering I actively partake in said activities on a monthly basis. Shipping isn't a couple hundred either.

If you're moving this for some 6ers I might be interested 👀

So where are you buying them from then because i scour the Japanese markets for these very things (+ ESP's and others) and I've not come across anything at those prices for J's and EB's. And no way you can safely ship a high value guitar from Japan to Canada for less than a couple hundred. It just cost me $250 to send a Caparison from Southern Ontario to Illinois insured so if you're getting something legit from across the pacific, insured and safely shipped, you need to spill the beans!

Sure, Ill trade you two 6's for it. I got a Squier/Warmoth parts guitar and a beat up, modified S540. That should about cover it, I think.

On local classifieds that's the ballpark. For online marketplaces like Reverb and Ebay you'd add ~15% to that, give or take.

I bought my unloaded JP6 for 1K in 2020 and the JPX for 2K in 2022. 2K is usually the range for the JPs I see pop up. People selling Majesties ask for twice as much but I'm not sure if they ever sell at or close to ask.

There's been a JP7 in my local classifieds for 2800 CAD firm, it's been sitting there for over two years I think.

Admittedly I've only seen the RG8570Z pop up recently, out of all the J Customs, but both times they were in the 2500 CAD range and took a few weeks to sell.

Ranging from $2450-5100 USD on Reverb, from what I can see. I'd say with those specs, it's reasonable to fall in the middle of that range, so maybe $3250 USD? Which, in CAD, is probably about $26,000, right?

Yeah, I think you've got the exchange rate correct!

Well that depends! What you got? Will you throw in your trade secrets for Japan imports? Sounds like that where it's at.

Now that's going to be a tough one to pass up.. I'll sleep on it.

Yeah.. that is wild. Honestly I was thinking the fact that this is a 7 would bear some mystique because Suhr 7s are harder to come by these days.
But in Canada.. I've seen Suhr's on Marketplace for like $6-12k which is insane but who knows.. some seem to move.
Guitar prices are running wild.

As I said, I love this guitar. But if I was able to leverage it into 2 quality guitars.. that would be difficult to pass up, depending on the stock!

These are hard to come by later unless you order one new, at an expense surely higher than you paid for that. If its one of your fav guitars, don't do it man.

You're absolutely right. I've thought about parting with this guitar a few times, but always snap out of it fairly quickly because it is an insanely good instrument.

I was more just taking a stab at the possibility it would fetch enough premium to turn it into 2 Suhr Modern 6's  almost the same guitar, but two of them in 6 string form.. risky endeavor, though..

Suhr 7’s seem to fall in that category where the seller thinks they’re worth a lot more used than they will actually sell for. Then again, maybe they do sell for the higher price. The suhr 7s I have seen listed have been fairly unremarkable (which is shocking considering Suhr makes some beautiful guitars) and sat at silly prices for a while.

This is not me hating on Suhr as I own a modern 6 and absolutely love it, just random anecdotes I’ve observed through seeing some Suhr 7 strings listed for prices I thought were a bit out of touch for a used instrument.

Beautiful guitar there fella! In my opinion, this guitar is worth about $3.5k US, possible to stretch to 4, or jump down to 3 for a quick sale. Considering there is a Suhr Modern satin 7, their only run of the mill 7, and most affordable one used for 3k on reverb, yours even goes up in value more with the killer specs and Finish justifying the 4k if you want.

Cheers!
