So who else is in to these guys? I hate at the drive in, my friend loved them, so i figured MV was more of the same stuff. I just recently gave their new disc a listen and loved it! He has all of their cd's so I gave all of them a spin and WOW! I totally dug it. Its like a perfect split between the atmosphere of tool, the energy and progressiveness of Dream Theater, and the odd sounds and feel of king crimson.

"Frances the Mute" blew me away when it came out...they carry alot of atributes over from At the Drive In, I kinda see them as "At the Drive in Mk II" in some ways...but tighter, more experimental, more melodic and progressive and with much improved song writing.

Awesome band, kinda slipped out of the spotlight recently, 2004-2005 was their peak over here...but their last album was pretty good I thought.

Great band. :yesway: I enjoy "Francis The Mute" more than Amputechture.

They have a new album, "The Bedlam In Goliath", coming out on Tuesday. :metal:

I didn't care much for At The Drive-In. Cedric sounds so much better in The Mars Volta.

I got frances the mute from a friend. It was just a bit to crazy for me the first time I listened. I need to check it out again, never really gave it a chance.

I liked them from the start, very good blend of rock, prog, latino and more modern influence :)

I love the Mars Volta! One of the most original bands to come along in years. Also some of the most creative use of guitar effects I've ever heard. I'm eager to hear the new album.

I like Mars Volta, but At The Drive In are so much better. I have every single At The Drive In album (El Gran Orgo, Acrobatic Tenement, In-Casino-Out, Vaya, Relationship of Command) and I have 2 Mars Volta albums. Both Cedric and Omar were hundreds of times better in ATDI than in Mars Volta. Mars Volta is a good band, but it can't compare to ATDI.

Wasn't ever expecting to like a band like Mars Volta as things like that normally irritate me & I detest At the Drive-In, but De-Loused totally blew me away a couple of years ago. Such an awesome album, I think the drums really make it for me.

Glad somebody's bumping this thread, although a new one would really be much preferred.

Fucking love Mars Volta with a passion. De-Loused, Amputechture, Bedlam, Frances the Mute, and Octahedron are all brilliant albums by them, IMO. I have been absolutely going mad waiting for them to finish their next album. xD
