At last, the new Steven Fryette Design website has gone live. Beautiful site, check it out! I've known about this for a while now but it is even better looking than I anticipated :)

Thoughts?

For those who still don't know, Fryette Amplification were formerly known as VHT. Same amps, same people, just different name.

The site looks great.

That Deliverance head has me interested in a Fryette. I'm moving from solid state to tubes and I want to try one out. I have wanted a Mesa Dual Rec for a long time. How does the Deliverance head compair to the Mesa. I want a brutal sound but still clean up really nice and clear.

The Deliverance is more of a no-nonsense amp. It has a really good sound. It's thick, articulate, very dynamic and organic. It can deliver amazing cleans and really heavy tones, but I wouldn't say it's 'brutal'. It can be if set properly and boosted, but I'd recommend the Pittbull Fifty/CL or Sig:X if you want something in that price range that is more aggressive/brutal sounding.

The Sig:X really is the best deal around IMO. It's only $100 more than the Deliverance 120, but it has 3 independent channels with 3 modes each, and all the features in the world. Check out the website, you'll see. The Sig:X can sound like the Deliverance, but it can also do a lot more. It has IMO the most gorgeous (and LOUD) cleans I've ever heard from a modern tube amp, and at the same time the heavies are super aggressive, super tight, and really thick. More polished than the more raw/gutteral Pittbull tones, but definitely as tight.

If you're primarily into metal though, and just want a really nice (like the Mesa) but not 'fucking amazing' cleans (like the Sig:X), the Pittbull 50/CL or 100/CL I think would be your best bet. It has the organic in-your-face brutality and tightness of the ULs, but a little more stripped down. Still more options and modern amenities than the Deliverance though. They're priced much lower than the Ultra-Lead as well.

I'd really only go with the Deliverance models if you were happy with having no fx loop, one channel with a simple layout, relying mostly on your guitar's volume knob for cleans in a live setting, etc. It does have an excellent tone and response, but again it's designed to be as pure and simple as possible. It has a lot of crisp clear attack, is very harmonically rich, but not as saturated/massive sounding as the Pittbulls or Sig:X.

My recommendation would be the Sig:X (versatile and can excell at everything) or the Pittbull 50/CL (or 100/CL) if you want maximum brutal aggression without paying $1000-1500 more for the UL or CLX.

It's hard to really compare any of these to a Mesa since they are unique to each other. Mesa's are cool too. I've owned several Dual and Triple Recs over the years. They sound like Mesas, you know? They're both good but I personally prefer the VHT/Fryette stuff. To me they just have a tighter, clearer, more responsive and aggressive feel & tone to them. I also find they cut through a mix a lot better for whatever reason (part of that is the VHT speakers though too). My bandmate was playing thru a Dual Rec opposite of my Pittbull for a long time and he really got buried in the mix by me, even if he was louder. It wasn't until he switched to a Marshall that he cut through the mix.

Really, it's tough to say. You know where I stand, but if you love Mesas then you should really get a Mesa. However if you want to try a VHT/Fryette, I think you'd be happy. If you get it from a dealer such as myself, there's a return policy so you wouldn't be stuck with it if you didn't like it.

Hope that helped a bit. There are plenty of Fryette owners here who could chime in as well I'm sure.

Thanks for the info Nick. That helped out a lot! I'm going to see if there are any dealers near me so I can try and hear one for myself.
I do love Mesas but the sig x has now caught my attention.

It looks like there's a dealer in Berkley, MI. You can try and see if they have one. If not, let me know.

i would check one out before buying any other amp. For the price i dont see how you can get more amp than a sig x. Its just a matter of whether or not you like the vht sound. Like Nick says VHT amps are monstrous in a band setting and cut through.

I found a sweet deal on a 2/90/2 so I'm probably joining the VHT/Fryette family here soon. Just wondering about bridging the 2 channels to mono. I don't see any switch for it, do you just plug everything into channel A and it auto detects that shit? Because I'd feel kind of uncomfortable doing that and not knowing for sure whether I'm going to blow a transformer or some shit

I could pick random letters out of the alphabet and the result would still be better than "Fryette" for an amp company. God awful company name.

Thanks for the heads up dude. I have actually been checking the site every week or two waiting for it to come alive. I am not 100% sure why since I own a UL but I often find myself just searching random VHT stuff.

I'm going to call them later today and see. I looked around on the net and MAN are these expensive! But you really do get what you pay for IMO. I speak from experance with all the cheapo amps I have owned and then playing other peoples gear.
I got plulled up on stage one night at a local bar to play a song and I got to play the guys LP in to a Dual Rec and I just fell in love on how it sounded.
Ireally want to try out the sig-x.
