Loads has been going on, as we're into a really exciting phase of production. Khris my new intern has really started to come into his own. I've been teaching him the ropes and basics on some scrap and test pieces which he's put so much effort into. Really proud of him.
The stock series is in full swing, with almost all the bodies cut and carved, and all the necks ready for their turn so we're just about a week ahead of schedule at the moment!
Pre-orders for the second stock run will go live on the week the 1st run are shipped so people can get a real feel for what they look/sound like in the flesh.
3 stock guitars will also be available for sale at Symphony Music. (it was 4 but one is taken already!) 2nd Run guitars will hopefully be on sale in Mainland Europe so watch this space!
We've also been working on some amazing custom builds. This month has been the Month of awesome wood...
Enough drivel. On to the pictures.
Oh - and also just a quick note to mark the anniversary of Christopher Hitchens who died two years ago today. One of the most profound and powerful contrarians and commentators who had, and continues to have a huge influence on my life.
The Stock Series 1st Look: Syren 6 #1
This is straight after carving, no finish sanding or oil yet.
Here's the stack last week - they're all done now. (And a token Wraith on top of course!!)
Chris, your work is beautiful! I think the wraith is easily one of my favorite builds I've seen from any luthier. As soon as I sell my jp7 I'm pretty certain I'm going to put an order in for a wraith 7 of my own.
Ok, We've been burning the midnight oil here at the workshop of late. My new assistant Khris is putting in some serious effort so chops to him! I'm so pleased with how he's applied himself and is putting everything into his training. Good Man!!
I'll skip most of the commentary, mainly because I don't have time lol, and just get to the photos!!
First off, we shipped the Tumi Inlay Wraith:
She's loaded with EMG JH Signature set humbuckers. I'm usually not a fan of actives but man are these things epic. Like no other EMG set I've come across!
I'm also putting a couple of my personal guitars up for sale (not just Sabres), I don't know if its ok or not to mention that on this thread so apologies in advance if its not and I'll take them down. They're going up in the classifieds today as well.
This is a very special Wraith - the very first one ever. Our prototype. I've been so busy I literally haven't played her for over 6 months so its time for her to find a loving home.
She's a bit roadworn in places having been loaned out for use on tour, and exhibited at a number of shows, including a pretty large chip out of the headstock, but nothing which compromises her playability! £999.00 ONO
My Trusty Ibanez RG1527 Prestige Team J. Craft. This is the best playing Ibanez I've owned, but I have enough 7s and I'm saving to buy a house so she must go too! When I bought her a couple of years ago, the body had a number of dings and dents, but she played so well I thought I just had to have her! These things used to cost like £1800 but obviously with the damage to the paint I'm not looking for anywhere near that much so £600 or thereabouts should do it. I've upgraded the pots to CTS ones and the switch to something decent.
Lastly, I'm selling my Limited Edition Maverick Matrix, 6 string. I've upgraded the Pickups to Seymour Duncan SH-11/APH-1Ns and she sounds immense. This guitar is so freaking cool I kind of don't want to sell her, but with my daughter almost here I have other priorities! £500 ono.
Anyway - On to actual news!!!
As I said, we've been pulling some crazy hours here but its all paying off. We're changing the way we organise our build cycles to make the whole process more efficient and our production has sped up already!
My what a busy month this has been!! Amazing and frustrating in equal measure. We've been working like madmen and have done some work I'm incredibly proud of as hopefully the pictures will demonstrate. This has been tempered however by one of those months where it felt like nothing turned up on time, and every supplier or delivery seemed hell-bent on making our lives more difficult! Almost every piece of hardware, pickup, blank and tool we had on order either arrived late or went to an incorrect address.
Still - you soldier on!!
On to the photos!
The stock series guitars 1st run are officially complete! I only have photos from last week during final assembly but I'll be taking more and a testing/demonstration video early next week before we ship them so watch this space!
Here they are:
We might be BKPs favourite customer now...
We've obviously been powering on with custom orders too:
This burl Maple and Black Limba Ghost had her lacquer coats applied:
No substitute for the old ways!!
Having learned a lot from Dylan at Daemoness I'm concentrating most of my efforts on increasing the precision and clean-cut nature of our carving and finishing. Obviously this has always been a priority but Dylan, and of course Tom Waghorn turn this skill into an art form.
With that in mind, here are some pics of a flame maple and mahogany build in progress:
Stain...
Oil...
Some Buckeye burl porn...
And after stain and cutting back the PRS style binding:
An action shot!!
Some Rosewood on Ash goodness!
Ebony on Black Limba
That should do for a few days!
Oh - one more thing...
For Sale - ready to have your custom neck and hardware fitted to your specification!
