Thumping tone with Archetype Abasi

Has anyone figured out how to get the thumping tones of tosin abasi using archetype abasi?
I have his fishman fluences and I still didn't quite get his tone.

They say tone is in the fingers, so you'll probably need to break your thumb so that it bends backwards like Tosins. That will likely help.

Are your strings old? Unless they're fairly new or kept in good condition, especially on a 7 or 8, it's very hard to get that bright spanky tone.

I know it's kinda discouraging to say this, but I started playing slap style on ERG, then got a bass. Played that slap style for a few years, and was able to return to ERG with like 5000% the slapping tapping, popping et cetera skill. (I still suck btw)

Alot of that might just be down to puting more hours into practice, but I think bass helps put things together technique wise.

Not the most practical suggestion, but if you have access to a bass, might help.
