Pain of Salvation - Remedy Lane

I had a really tough time choosing between Remedy Lane and The Perfect Element. Both of them rule, I eventually chose The Perfect Element, because it's a tad more unified work. Remedy Lane rules though, 'Beyond The Pale' is one of my favorite songs ever.

Type O Negative - October Rust
Dimmu Borgir - Puritanical Euphoric Misanthropia
Fear Factory - Demanufacture
Cradle of Filth - Cruelty And The Beast
Arch Enemy - Wages Of Sin
My Dying Bride - Songs Of Darkness, Words of Light

The top 4 I listed are solid locks, the bottom two were tougher. I could have easily gone with 4-5 others there (In Flames , Hypocrisy, Black Sabbath, etc).

Modest mouse - every album

:agreed: I hadn't listened to them actively in a while and the other day i got into a discussion about Isaac Brock's lyricism and how much i love it. One of the only bands that I love their spanning like 8 albums without fail. I even dig some of the shit that they recorded as teenagers on what sounds like a boom-box or some shit. Mice Eat Cheese?

yar.. 6 albums is an impossibility. I could name 6 bands!
Dave Matthews Band
Modest Mouse
System of a Down
The Beatles
Led Zeppelin
Radiohead

shit... there's still more than 6. fuck it, i'm never gonna have to go without these, so i deem this activity false!

Here's my list:

1. Arcturus - La Masquerade Infernale
Avantgarde "metal" with an amazing atmosphere. A huge influence for me!

2. Camel - Snowgoose
Progressive rock at it's best. Amazing songs, relaxing atmosphere and Andy Latimer's guitar tone/melodies.

yes man! I live camel and arcturus(but only arcturus with garm rygg :p)

Hell yes! I actually like Simen's voice, but Sideshow Sypmhonies was not nearly as good as the Garm era material, so I agree :agreed:

hm, for me - my top six changes month to month, but if its something like the six records i would take with me to the lonely island blabla...., i'd hit:

METALLICA - Ride The Lightening (my first metallica record, what shall i say...and a life without fade to black - no way!)

METALLICA - Master Of Puppets (no explanation needed i think...)

IRON MAIDEN - Piece Of Mind (hard decision...my all time favourite band, but this one has the songs which turned me into metal more than 15 years ago)

IRON MAIDEN - Somewhere In Time (also very hard decision...powerslave or SIT...but this one has Alexander The Great on it, discussion closed)

BLACK SABBATH - Heaven & Hell (yes, the first ones invented metal, and yes they are untouchable - but this one is simply one of the best pieces of music EVER made. EVER!)

MEGADETH - Countdown To Extinction (altough i think its not theyr best record, it was my first megadeth CD which i bought at age 13...special status and will always have a special place in my heart)

if it would be allowed, i'd take only a Best Of - Iron Maiden (like the recently released somwhere back in time, has it all on it!) and Best Of Metallica or lets say - the liveshit 3xCD, so 2 places are left - then i'd also take:

UNBROKEN - Life. Love. Regret. (best-hardcore-album-E-V-E-R ! this one has it all, hardcore has never been so heavy (1994), so dark and never had better lyrics)

CARCASS - Heartwork (the record which brought me back from hardcore into death metal, thank you carcass)

I've gone for albums that shaped my playing and desire to play:

1) Arch Enemy - Stigmata:
THeir best disc musically as far as I am concerned, the atmosphere is brilliant and it has some of the sweetest leads ever. Very raw and a brilliant mix of technicality, dirge and melody. I'm on my 5th copy of this album. When i first got it, i borrowed it from someone and they didn't see it back for 2 years

2) Megadeth - Rust in Piece:
As someone once out this, if you can play this entire album on guitar, then you are good. Really good. The definitive speed/thrash album, noone has ever bettered it in terms of blending song writing with technicality and aggression.

3) Iron Maiden - Powerslave (although seventh son/somewhere in time come close):
This is the first maiden album i had on CD. I listened it to death, and still love it today. The others come close, but this is the one that really did it (in conjunction with the live after death tape)

4) Morbid Angel - Domination:
An absolute classic in death metal, got me really wanting a 7string. If this album had contained rapture and god of emptiness it'd have been beyond godly!

5) Dream Theater - Awake
Lie, The Mirror, Voices, Sapce Dye Vest, they've never sounded as atmospheric without Kevin Moore to be honest. Still love this album

6) Paradise Lost - Icon:
One of the albums from my youth that I loved to death, got me into more doomy stuff, opening up the gates for Anathema,My Dying Bride and Katatonia, all of which I still love today.

Honorable Mention:
7) Diabolical Masquerade - Nightwork:
Got this at the same time as arch enemy's stigmata, again, borrowed, and again, eventually gave it back and bought a copy. The melodies mixed with black metal is sublime and one of my all time favorite albums. Last track has one of the coolest melodic riffs in it ever made.

8) Immortal - Battles in the North:
Got me into immortal, there are better albums, but this was my introduction!

8) Hypocrisy- 4th Dimension:
Awesome album, except it didn't contain "The Abyss" which was the reason i bought the album. I spent ages tracking that song down, and then they go rerecording it (first time i found it, the CD had a flaw on the only track i bought it for, still, went out, got a replacement copy). Then they went and rerecorded it. Original version is better though :D
