Fun, daft punk, silversun pickups, anuhea, to list a few non-metal alternatives...anything from beethoven...try listening to the white album and imagine all the guitars are heavily distorted, then cover it. Throw in some palm mutes and make your favorite beatles song heavy as shi.t.
Hawaiian legend Iz, or israel. I find I get my best writing ideas when I'm listening to not so heavy stuff--then I write some heavy stuff.

Huh, that intronaut track was really good, they seem to have become the spiritual successors to Isis or something. Only thing I ever heard by them was their album "Void" several years ago which was good but was a lot more spastic than this, time to check out what they've been doing since.

Altar of plagues- Teethed Glory and injury
Soilwork- The Living Infinite

And so far the best one, Woe-Withdrawl

Off the top of my head anyway

And couple really poppy lame ones I'm too embarrassed to list

i love the new albums by Tesseract, Steven Wilson, Little Tybee, Disperse, Dillinger Escape Plan, Daft Punk, Chon, Birds of Tokyo, A$AP Rocky

and waiting on Dream Theater, Protest the Hero, misery signals, and KARNIVOOL though...

i have a feeling mine will be Karnivool or DT at the end of the year

no one's said anything about mbv yet... it's basically Loveless part 2, but still really good. Boards of Canada have a new album which sounds awesome. My friends and I have been listening to Bubble Butt off the new Major Lazer pretty much nonstop for the past couple weeks. As far as metal goes, Exodromos is insane, Passages into Deformity ....ing rips, new Nails is amazing, new Katalepsy is supposed to be really good too. Definitely looking forward to Mouth of the Architect, Touche Amore, Gigan, Deltron, and Ghostface/MF Doom releases, and still have to check out Low, Intronaut, etc. Looking forward to what the rest of the year has to offer

This Black Metal/Shoegaze band has just put out my favorite AOTY so far. Only thing I've heard this year I would consider a masterpiece.

Listened to the Deafheaven record recently. Excellent record, I can see myself spinning this a lot.

Since people thus far have only listed metal bands (Huge surprise there! haha) I suppose I'll shed some light on some other less popular genres around here.

From the Birds Cage - HRVRD
Descension - Coheed and Cambria
Migrant - The Dear Hunter
13.0.0.0.0 - This Town Needs Guns

And yes of course, Altered States from TesseracT. Haha, Even I am guilty of metal favoritism.

I tried to get into Deafheaven, I really did. All I could think while that song was playing was that it sounds so forced. Maybe if I listen to the whole album I'll get it, but that song didn't really do it for me.

I kinda agree with this. I used to be a huge post-rock fan, but after a while I just could not stop hearing the same threads being constantly spun throughout almost every band in the genre, to the point where the vast majority of it began sounding completely disingenuous to me. Deafheaven was a band i really wanted to like, but just could not.

The Haxan Cloak-Excavation is probably my favorite release so far, followed closely by the new DEP.

Also, the new Ocoeur album is pretty lovely.
