:/ after reading through this thread I realise that no guitar-based music I like has been released so far this year.

I do however have a bunch of good stuff to look forward to, like Gorguts, Exivious, maybe an Animals as Leaders, a Devin album and a Gojira EP or something.

I'll be back for the December list with a better attitude!

Thousands Of Evils is coming out this year right? Honestly I think it will be better than anything else. I hope so at least.

I tried to get into Deafheaven, I really did. All I could think while that song was playing was that it sounds so forced.
I'm guessing because they play what is traditionally a very dark and aggressive style of playing, but using happier riffs/notes/scales?

Not that guy, but yes. It's not natural sounding at all, but I thought it was okay.

Hypocrisy - End of Disclosure

I like my melodic death metal:)

I haven't listened to the new Amorphis yet. New TBDM will slay. New Amon Amarth should be good although I was unimpressed with the new song. New Kalmah sounds kickass so far. Skeletonwitch have a new album in the works.

Surprisingly good year for me since I'm not a fan of regular death metal.
I've listened to all these albums now(except Skeletonwitch), and they all slay! :metal: I was particularly impressed with Kalmah. It wasn't anything new or innovative, but I love how consistent they are. I still like the new COB better though. Had more surprises and wasn't as generic.

I'm listening to the new Sabbath album now. 40 something years later and they still kick the vest metal imitators in the balls.

Wormed - Exodromos
Defeated Sanity - Passages Into Deformity

These two albums = god-tier brutal death metal.

Been so hooked on those two, only other 2013 release I've listened to is Intronaut's Habitual Levitations, which is fantastic as well.

Looking forward to Gorguts, Exivious, and hopefully Ulcerate.

By far my favorite music released this year. Not a single track that isn't solid.

I'm sure I'm forgetting a bunch of albums, but add new Ihsahn and (potentially) Ayreon to my watch list.

Deafheaven - Sunbather
Coprocephalic - Gluttonous Chunks (played with these guys at LVDF, definitely the highlight for me)
Tesseract - Altered State
Wormed - Exodromos
Defeated Sanity - Passages Into Deformity (supposed to play with them, canceled :p)
Within the Ruins - Elite

Sadly, neither the new Dillinger or Black Dahlia really did it for me. Good albums, but not one of the best in my opinion. Also, anyone know of any good postrock albums released recently?

Since people thus far have only listed metal bands (Huge surprise there! haha) I suppose I'll shed some light on some other less popular genres around here.

See, I was hoping for some non-Metal albums were listed so I could check them out
