Totally agree. Art of Balance and War Within were two of the first metal albums I ever listened to but my god the mix is bad.

I was spinning "The Art of Balance" at work today, and it's not as terrible as I'd remembered. It could certainly due with some polishing, but I wouldn't say it's awful.

Although, I'm of the mind that the first couple albums of any band are going to sound fairly unpolished/just OK due to being amateurs to the scene; so take my opinion with a grain of salt.

Speaking if which, I thought the Kill Em All remaster preview I heard sounded pretty darn good (Four horsemen). Nice clarity and separation on the instruments. Normally with a remaster i don't expect much, so i was pleasantly surprised.

Hopefully Metallica gets the message and remasters AJFA and Death Magnetic.

Not that I'm a fan of Death Magnetic, but that amps severely needs one.

If it weren't for the $150 pricetag, I'd already own it!

Not a huge advocate of remasters, would probably only really want one in instances where I don't think the production is actually all that great, people have mentioned Death Magnetic already...

With that in mind, I wouldn't mind hearing Animals As Leaders' self-titled get a bit of an update.

I'd like to hear remixed versions (NOT remastered) of all Dio solo career albums. The mixing of these always sounded pretty bad to my ears.

all ozzy Era sabbath albums. and for the wrong reasons :(

most metal albums I listen to are more modern. thus louder and brickwalled. so whenever I put my mp3 player on shuffle and a sabbath song pops up, it's way too quiet in comparison.

We've nearly finished re-recording our debut album, pretty happy with it so far.

2 albums that come to mind immediately are Iron Maiden - Virtual XI (this would also require some rewriting) & Edguy - Kingdom Of Madness

I would want the first 4 Metallica albums to be remixed. The remastered Kill Em All and Ride don't sound much better than the other remastering that's been done over the years.

Same with the first 3 Dream Theater albums. And actually I'd love for WDADU to be rerecorded with LaBrie.

Decapitated-Winds of Creation, Cryptopsy-Whisper Supremacy. Both records my brother would blast on the way to school in his car when I was 13. I'd love to hear these with a little better mix and master.

Metallica: .....And Justice For All
St Anger (actual snare, not a folding metal chair being hit over a generic local wrestlers head on a saturday night)

King's X: every album before Dogman

What the what?!?! WHY would anyone feel that those two metalcore (Death-metal-core?) albums need to be redone? Unhallowed especially hits so ....ing hard. It's vocals drums bass and guitars. It doesn't have multiple tracks all trying to sound "epic" because they all slay. And the lyrics are so dark and catchy, I could not imagine the dual growls sounding anywhere near as brutal as they do on these. They came out in the mid-'00's ffs.

I dont know man. They recently did a tour where they played all of Unhallowed and some other "hits"...sounded absolutely amazing. Trevor has grown as a vocalist so much as well, but to each his own I guess.

Hate Eternal- Fury and Flames

When you nearly have to guess what direction the constant tritone-orgasms go in, it's time to upgrade...

Oh god, I just remembered one that needs to be SEVERELY remixed.

Judas Priest's Redeemer of Souls. I've never heard a modern album from such a big band mixed so badly.

We're talking re-recording, this one can't be saved.

Although Pain of Salvation is about to release a remaster of Remedy Lane, an album I can't fault them for choosing since it's considered by many to be their best and they also will be releasing a complete live performance of the same album at around the same time, One Hour by the Concrete Lake is the album that they should have chosen. The original production sounds rather wonky and doesn't really resemble that of any of their other albums.

I'm generally NOT a fan of this, mostly for nostalgia reasons but I can think of some times where it would probably benefit the album.

My two picks would be Gordian Knot-Emergent (love this album but hate the tones/mix) and I would LOVE to hear a cleaner mix on Cynic- "Focus".

Also....I heard a remix of ZZ Top's "La Grange" and the drums had so much reverb. I'm not even sure if the mix was really that bad or if my ears just rejected it because it was so foreign from the original that I have heard 10 million times.

Years ago I would have killed for Staind to rerecord/mix/master Tormented, but it wouldn't feel the same today. The same goes for most of the early Mushroomhead tracks, I know XX covers some of that material, but the some songs were altered to varying extents for that release.

If Staind just re-amped that guitar tone to be a little less Buzz saw I would be happy haha.

I pretty much feel exactly the same way. And I just remember how much I love that record.

Judging that I'm still getting likes from my post a month later, I think ...And Justice For All is the clear winner of this thread
