What is better? 2 EMG 707 OR 707 AND 81-7?

It depends on what you like. The 707 has noticeably more low end that comes with more of a thud, but not in a muddy way and nice, shimmering highs - a very full sound. The 81-7 has a much tighter low end and overall sound and crunches palm muted chords much better.

Consider the 81-7 your old favourite records and the 707 a new high-fidelity CD.

I would go 707 in the neck and 81-7 in the bridge. I'm not really a fan of the 707 in the bridge to begin with. The 81-7 sounds a little more trebley (like the 81) to me and that is what I prefer in the bridge anyway.

I don't know about those other guys, but Loomis does two 707's.

I've used two 707's, mostly because I didn't know any better then, if I knew now what I knew then, I'd probably go with 707x neck and 81-7x in bridge.

Go with 81-7 bridge and 707 neck and then if you don't like it you can always switch them around.

you mentioned teh djentz... so any additional brightness that you can get will help. Go with the 81-7

Liquifire neck and crunchlab bridge...

Seriously though, the question was really simply and yet someone has to bring this shit up again. Face it, not everyone is a huge fan of the CL/LF-combo and some people actually like EMGs. Fuck me right?

On topic: I've had a Crunchlab in my RGD7420Z for 2 months before swapping it for an 81-7/707-set. I just didn't manage to get a sound I like out of it (and that's saying a lot considering I play an Axe FX). After switching to the 81-7 &707 I was delighted. Great sound, great combo.
