Interesting... By itself, this thing definitely has too much low-end and lacks in the highs and high mids. It also just needs a tiny bit more gain... But once you throw a light boost in front of it, it comes to life:

ok I guess I'm just on a regular ol buying spree.

Guitar gear acquired this year before this month:
ESP Maverick (on its way out)
Metronome

Guitar gear purchased in the last month:
Ibanez project
A few hundred in guitar refin supplies
Mayones Setius
Black Mass HB/JM pickup set
Black Mass 1312 (because 3 RATs weren't enough I guess)
Acorn Solid State drive

And still eyeing a 22-fret guitar to put the new pickups in. Can't decide. Might do another Dunable (with return policy this time) or an LP studio. Open to other vintagey 22-fret suggestions.

Maybe an amp head under 1k and a captor X? I've been missing knob turning recently but still can't run a cabinet in my living situation.

And maybe some more pedals who knows what the future may bring

Definitely gonna be rounding up some stuff to sell - have a few pedals I don't really need and some pickups I don't really like taking up space I don't have

Bought an ISP Vector 210 sub on a whim. I've been looking for but haven't been able to find the vector sl for awhile. Have no idea how well the 210 will stack up but excited to try it out. Also picked up an ESP Technical House guitar in a trade. I'll post it in the ESP thread tomorrow when I get a chance.
The vector sub is crazy. So much low end thump (as expected). It works better with my thinner sounding amps/cab but still sounds good with my amp+cab combos that have a good amount of low end.

I have always been curious about these. Would be awesome shaking the walls with that thing.

Sounds like a new living situation is in order, lol.

Got a line on a Peavey Stereo Chorus 400 and a Peavey Heritage VTX, both in what look to be immaculate condition. 600 USD for the pair. I'll be driving down to check them out in a couple weeks.
got'em. cleaned them out with contact cleaner today. the VTX sounds great but is making some gross popping noises when I crank it. it's got the original Peavey (?!?!) branded tubes in it so new tubes will be on the way when I get paid.

stereo chorus has two dead speakers (12" scorpions). they worked when I got them but didn't survive the drive back I guess. one reads nothing and one reads 32ohms but makes no sound. tried two different amps. might try to replace the voice coils, scorpions rule. I've already got a lot of projects piling up though.

temporary solution: I put the stereo chorus in the VTX enclosure with the black widows and it sounds fuckin dope. new favorite amp. happy day!

I've been listening to Elder a whole lot lately, and it has me looking to get into fuzz pedals for the first time in my life lol. Currently deciding between a Black Arts Pharaoh (ala Elder) or a Fuzzhugger Algal Bloom. I think both would be great -- not looking to full on doom fuzz, just have a moderate amount of gain going on. I also don't really have an appropriate amp for that kind of sound, so that's something to look into also.

I have a pharaoh and I'll never sell it. but also a fuzz is a fuzz is a fuzz. also you don't even need fuzz, just crank that power section and praise Iommi. this is literally just a BKP supermassive into a peavey rage with everything at 10, tell me that shit doesn't doom

any amp is a doom amp if you play doom riffs on it

this guy dooms

Anyone play a Mesa Triple Crown? Supposedly Wes Hauch used one for the Sarcoma album, that shit hits like a lead pipe, just not sure how close it is to the Royal Atlantic for high gain. I really liked the RA, but then part of me thinks there are better options for the refined high gain Marshall-thing.
Maybe I'm mixing you up with someone else, but ain'tcha got an FM3 in your arsenal? Fire up the TC models and go to town. They're pretty on point, especially with the newest FW beta. That album was actually what sparked my interest in the Triple Crowns, too . He said he used a Peavey XXX as well, though, so that definitely plays a big part in that weird, textured sound the guitars have.

I had one until recently. Sold it to my guitarist, so I still get to hear it on a regular basis.

I never had a RA, but I did have a Stiletto and ElectraDyne, and you can hear their DNA in the Triple Crown.

Maybe not the best choice if you want really raw and abrasive sounding, it's pretty refined and relatively smooth.

Sounds great! :D

And yeah, I could probably make most fuzz pedals work for me, but it's just fun to listen to samples and pick ones with more desirable characteristics. I have some cool drives to experiment with:

- Maxon ST9 Pro+
- Bondi Sick As
- Hudson Sidecar
- Electronic Audio Experiments Halberd

Looking forward to grabbing a proper fuzz and working out a new effects chain. I'll pop over into the pedal board thread later when I have something nailed down.

I really don't need new pickups in anything, but this has got me feeling impulsive:

Most people really praise the Hapas stuff, but I've never been able to lay hands on any of their guitars.
