A while back they had their entire Silhouettes album streaming on their Myspace, but it looks like they now only have a couple of songs up. That album is definitely worth the money.

I prefer cleans, although I hate cleans when they sound whiny like in 95% of all metalcore. I don't mind growling either, although some screams really piss me off like the guys from FellSilent and the guys from Sikth

Garm can do them all.

You can hear his baritone here

and some of his highs here (around 4:35)

Devin Townsend. Steve Vai also has a really powerful voice, which he hardly ever uses. Anyone disagreeing, I would reccomend listen to "The Silent Within", imo one of his best songs that hardly anyone seems to have heard.

what about the people who have already heard "The Silent Within" and still disagree?

I'm a fan of everything, honestly. I love anything from girly vocals to brutal gutturals. My top 5 would have to be:
-Anthony Green (Circa Survive, solo)
-Dallas Green (Alexisonfire)
-Trevor Strnad (Black Dahlia Murder)
-Derek Rydquist (The Faceless)
-Jonny Davy (JFAC, Fleshrot)

Disclaimer: I like Fleshrot better than JFAC. You should look them up.

For me it depends on the music, but i like screams mixed with very 'nursery-rhyme-like' cleans. American Head Charge are probably my favorite screams and general vocals, and Eric Powell from 16Volt has my favorite clean vocals. Nothing special, and neither of them have exceptional vocals per se, but they use them well and really appropriately :)

My favorite kind of vocals are clean vocals and lower growls. I'm not much into the high shrieks.

not emmure/suicide silence bullshit growls. :noplease: but like, Textures vocals and Opeth.

My favorite Vocalists (when it comes to stylized vocals/metal):
Vocalist of Textures
Mikael from Opeth
The vocalist of Between the Buried and Me
Karl from Misery Signals
Randy from Lamb of God

some other favorites are Maynard from Tool, Chino from Deftones, and the vocalist of Sigur Ros. :yesway:

Ihsahn. His growls/screams aren't too growled; you can hear what he's saying most of the time. His "clean" voice is pretty damn epic as well. I can't post Youtube links because I'm in China at the moment, but just look for "With Strength I Burn." It's a really good showcase of his range, and the spoken word segment around 3:30 is at the same time very cheesy and more epic than a truckload of Beowulf.

That's just one of my favourite artists though. There's plenty of other good singers in metal and beyond. I prefer baritone to other ranges - it just sounds better in metal in my opinion. People like Russell Allen and Ihsahn who can just lay on "the sandpaper" at will instead of having a "singing voice" and a "growling voice" are pretty damn cool.

I voted for all because it depends on what the vocals are over. Certain vocal styles don't lend themselves to certain types of music.

My favorite vocalists:
Mike Patton- Faith No More/Mr. Bungle/Dillinger Escape Plan/Tomahawk/Peeping Tom
Eddie Hermida- All Shall Perish
Rody Walker- Protest the Hero
Howard Jones- Killswitch Engage
Randy Blythe- Lamb of God
Stu Block- Into Eternity
Warrell Dane- Nevermore
Ihsahn- Emperor
Phil Labonte- All That Remains
Mikael Akerfeldt- Opeth/Bloodbath
Jens Kidman- Meshuggah

oh... yeah, and the dude from Scale the Summit ;)

My favorite is definetely Russell Allen because he has so much range and power. He can sing like Jon Anderson and then in the blink of an eye he can go into "rampaging-kill mode" without losing any pitch or defenition or volume. I'm not a big fan of screaming, but Russell has his onw unique way of doing it. He screams, in a tenor voice. High pitched screaming! ?It sounds just freackin awesome because he has the power and heaviness of screaming with the defenition and clarity of a normal high pitched voice.Very talented and very unique.

I definitely prefer a mix of everything, but I don't mind a lot of growls/screams as long as they are executed well. For a mix of everything its Devin Townsend. He has such amazing range and can pull off a lot vocal-wise, from cleans to amazing screams/growls.

Anthony Green is my favourite at the moment, along with Spencer Smith. Green's vocals aren't for everyone but I love them.
