As far as natural (finish) woods are concerned, Carvin's Walnut is the sexiest wood on the planet. However, my biggest guilty pleasure would be plain Maple tops...or plain Maple in general.
Otherwise, black dye/transparent black finishes on flamed Maple is my favorite.
I tend to prefer the look of tung-oiled naturals. Plain Maple, Mahogany, Black-Walnut, and especially Swamp Ash. Plus I'm cheap and like getting my necks left natural without an added fee .
1. Figured koa, definitely 2. Black limba 3. Figured (flame/quilt) Maple - dig all shades of blue, transprent white, deep reds, some greens - hell, any color looks good on flamed maple usually, same with quilted maple 4. Spalted Maple 5. Walnut 6. Ebony - pale moon and dark ebony both look awesome
I personally don't like natural mahogany or burls but that's personal preference
I didn't mean those to be in a specific order but you can take it anyway you want to. Agreed about spalted maple though - it can range from boring to insane.
