I use the gates on the Axe FX. My signal chain for my rhythm tone goes Guitar -> Gate -> OD ->VHT GP3 -> Another gate (tracks the at the first input, ISP style) -> Slight reverb to make rhythm sound a bit more natural.

Guitar > Tuner > Wah > Dyna Comp > Phase 90 > BB Preamp > MXR Smart Gate

End of chain in front of amp. Never had any issues with any lost tone, and it keeps my rig plenty quiet even at a low setting albeit I don't use incredibly high buzzsaw gain.

I used to run a Boss NS-2 in front of the amp, but now I run a 4 cable method as I don't have any effects. Goes like:

Guitar > tuner > NS2 in > NS2 send > 6505 in > 6505 send > NS2 return > NS2 out > 6505 return > Marshall 1960

It cuts noise before AND after the preamp, making it effectively silent like the clean channel would be when I'm not playing. I love it.

The only other pedal I run is a tuner

Just the one in my POD X3 Live. Noise isn't a huge issues with Blackouts luckily, so it stays pretty quiet.
Used to have a Behringer noise gate, sold it

I can't find mine :(

I never used it, but when I did, it was at the end of my chain, in front of the amp.

Guitar into the NS-2 Input. NS-2 Send into an overdrive pedal (OD808 or ZW-44). Output from Overdrive pedal into the Return of the NS-2 and then the output from the NS-2 into an amp.

Thats how mines set up anyway.

I had no idea you could do this! so it basically acts like an isp g string?

Right now (for the config that requires the gate):

Guitar > BH Wah > NS2 (TS9 in loop) > WH4 > Amp.

Amp Send > LA Volume > CE5 > PH3 > TR2 > DD20 > Amp Return.

My other rig configuration (which requires even more pedals) ironically does not need the gate.

I'm not daring enough to try the cross configuration on the NS2 for this yet. Any suggestions?

would that work the same if you had an effects rack (such as a G major) in the effects loop?

Fresh pedal board revamp:

Boss TU2 > ISP G string > MXR Blue Box > Snarling Dogs Mold Spore > TS9 > MXR Phase 90 > EH Bass Balls > Mesa Mark IV input > send > ISP G string > Boss PS 5 > Zvex Seek Wah > Line 6 Delay Modeler > return > Mesa 4x12 w G100k's

I dig G strings

Guitar, tuner, wah, Od3, chorus, Echo Park, Rv3, ISP > full stack, nice and quiet
I don't use a clean channel when i play with the band so this works good for me, if I did.. I just click it off so it won't clip my notes but usually I just roll my volume down and leave it on for a nice grit that still breaks through the gate.

Let's see here. I have an ISP Decimator Pro Rack G, and it is the absolute shit.

guitar -> Sennheiser wireless -> tuner -> ISP Channel 1 -> amp

FX loop send -> ISP Channel 2 -> FX loop return
