My favorite lyricists have always been Steve Harris of Iron Maiden and James Hetfield (pre black album, specifically MoP).
Favorite vocalist(s)? Dickinson and Åkerfeldt.

For vocals, absolutely. For lyrics, not so much.

For lyrics it's definitely Warrel Dane. Maybe Jim Matheos, but metal lyrics are a crapshoot.

I gotta say Tommy Rogers, from Between the Buried and Me (IMO, obviously :D ) . They are probably some of the only lyrics in metal that I have ever really actually liked (I am indifferent to almost all lyrics.).

EDIT: Cynic also have pretty awesome Lyrics :D

The King-King Diamond.
I can't do more then an hour or so at a time because he fries my ears out.
I'm more of a Mercyful Fate classics guy and some of his other early stuff like Holy Shrine kicks ass as well.

Does he actually pay someone to squeeze/pull his balls while recording?
Or does he have some groupie to do it for free?

Corey Taylor is one of my favorites lyricists, because he has a good vocabulary, and sings with emotion. My plague is one of his best written(in my opinion), the first time I heard it, I had to get the dictionary out, and I have been told I have a good vocabulary.

Also Serj and Daron from system of a down, as they sing about serious issues.

Also, I hope Joe sings some more on their next album, he's great

Yeah, i was on my ipod, so it messed up, lol.

"Now I'm picking up the pieces of my broken heart"

Dont get me wrong, I love ATB but I found the lyrics extremely cheesy. The composition wasn't the best too.

On another note, favorite lyrics: Devin townsend, Cynic, Death, BTBAM (I only say this for the paralax ep. I found the way he told the story very interesting), BoO (from the discovery), Protest the hero (Ariff mostly), some of the faceless' lyrics. Cant think of anymore for now.

Not every line is going to be gold, but the opening line to "to carry you away"

Who we are ill never know, but when we spoke i knew you well.
You knew me well. You loved me through and through.
I never thought i would watch you leave us, from a room as a kid, i held so close.
I was a son, made up of sand, you were the wind that let me go.
Dont say (goodbye) so this is goodbye.
But im afraid to speak, ill live the story, of how you meant so much to me.

That line is just heart touching. Its about dealing with the death of a mother. Thats some powerful stuff. I think it paints a great mental picture, and really captivates the feeling.

Eliot Coleman for sure. Love everything about his singing. Especially with his work in OMNOM

Winston mcall from Parkway Drive is an awesome writer, his words are intense, especially on Deep Blue.

Corey Taylor is a remarkable frontman as is Hetfield.
I like the obscurity of Chad Gray and Maynard James Keenan

Female vocals I like Charlotte Wessels from Delain, incredible tone in her voice. And she's farking HOT!

James Hetfield is a big favourite of mine.

Corey Taylor is very talented.

Guy from Rammstein is another favourite.

Anders from In Flames has some tripped out lyrics.

And of course Speed from Soilwork.

everyone knows i like halford. but i don't get to talk very often about graham bonnet in alcatrazz:

Chemical kids lost in the street, looking
For some kind of saviour
Perverted minds lead them like sheep
Into the slaughter they have to face

[CHORUS]
Too young to die, too drunk to live
As they follow in the path of believers before them
Too young to die, but there won't be too long to live

Daddie's princess fixes her hair, powders
Her nose from the inside
Smokes in the car, drinks her last beer,
Soon she'll be ready for one more day

Head for the classroom and to hell but
The clock up on the wall hold the
Blind face of freedom

[CHORUS CONT.]

There's time to die but she just needs
More time to live

[SOLO]

Years from now
Look how they change
They're so mature and respected
Makes them laugh
They were such fools
So unaware of the real live world
Honey I'm home, fix me a drink
It's been a long hard day and the boss
Drove me crazy
Watching the clock on the wall for
The happy hour

I saw Mayhem with Attila on vocals last night. Not going to say much on lyrical content, but i have to say it was very enjoyable to hear the De Mysteriis songs with him for once.

CHRISTIAN ALVESTAM?!?!?!

dude is hands down my favorite vocalist of all time
covers all ranges, and his clean singing is the voice of a heavenly choir

though, ol' father chuck wrote some spectacular lyrics

also, this thread needs some mention of lord worms ridiculous unearthly vocals

I dig the Contorionist's lyrics quite a bit. They have a sweet concept behind them.

Also Every Time I Die because alot of their lyrics come across very witty and awesome!
