Hi,

Can anyone tell me why oh why luthiers use basswood for their guitar bodies? I own two Ibanez guitars with bodies made from basswood, but I think this type of wood sounds quite awful, kind of squishy, if you know what I mean. It’s the pick ups on my guitars that kind of make up for it.

The only basswood advantages that I can come up with are its weight and the sustain it provides.

Curious about your answers. Thanks.

Because it sounds great to many. Search for awhile, I can't tell you how many times this has been discussed.
