What he doesn't address is the argument that since you don't eat breakfast, you take in more calories at lunch since you haven't had a meal in over 8hrs usually. Secondly, he promotes SNS saying that you should eat "energy producing foods" for breakfast which is basically like, "uh, doesn't that mean we SHOULD eat breakfast then?" Furthermore, how on earth can you attribute eating a cereal or a bagel in the morning to an increase of car accidents and children sleeping in school?

What do I think?
I think I'll just keep eating breakfast everyday as normal:)

+1. I'll get a hungry headache and be out of it until lunch time. Then I'll overcompensate eating at lunch because I missed breakfast, which leads to food coma.

Plus, I don't eat a uber huge stack of wheat pancakes for breakfast. That's just asking for a late morning wanting of a nap right there...

Breaking down the words into "break" and "fast" is just plain loopy. I mean, breaking down "Hammer" and "time" (no pun intended) doesn't mean it's time to build a doghouse or bash yourself in the head does it?

I'm not much of a breakfast person anyway. When I do eat breakfast, it's usually something small. It works for some people, and it doesn't work for others. Interesting read, though. :yesway:

Interesting. I've also read that breakfast is supposed to be your biggest meal and each following meal of the day should be smaller and smaller.

With all these contradicting methods I'll just stick to eating when I'm hungry.

I usually don't eat too much at breakfast.
But I always like to eat something.
And I don't give a fuck about fat loss <-- Michael Romeo approves this comment

There is something to this from personal experience.

If I wake up, eat a banana, a carb like a bagel, and have a little caffiene and tons of water, I can go burn my 1000 calories or more first thing before the sun is even up with no problem and feel great.

On days when I wake up later and eat a bunch of food before going, I feel more sluggish and I experience breathlessness much more easily. It takes a lot longer to get going.

This talk of eating a substantial meal and feeling sluggish reminds me of one of the potential signs of sleep deprivation: feeling sleepy after eating a large meal.

Not saying that's the reason; it just reminds me of it.

Anyway, I don't usually eat breakfast, but this article won't stop me from occasionally gorging on pancakes.

I typically limit my breakfast to something very small, consisting of either eggs or fruit.

So, im no expert on this type of stuff, but what I remember is

1) Using energy you dont have is eating soft tissue, which classified as muscle and fat

2) The longer you go without eating, the more "survival mode" your metabolism gets.

So, with the two factors given above, you will feel sluggish/tired if you dont eat because its easier to break down food than soft tissue; and if you dont eat after 8pm, and wake up at 6 am, with lunch at 12pm/noon, you just went 16 hours (or 2/3s of your day) without eating, which is a pretty big number (losing 2/3rds of my paycheck would leave at zimbawe poor levels). Your metabolism will slow down, and will store as much energy as fat as it can.

Also, studies show that people who eat breakfast are less likely to develop diabetes.

Im far from "educated" on the subject, and may be wrong

I've been paying more attention to things since reading the article, and it does seem to have something to it. The last few years, I've had a problem with being chronically groggy and fuzzy-headed, and paying more attention the last while, it does seem to be largely related to how I eat. When I eat a big meal, my mind is gone for the next while, but when I eat smaller meals, it's not bad, and I can continue functioning instead of being a zombie for a while.

If you tend to eat later than 8, like I do a lot of the time, skipping breakfast won't be so bad, especially if your last meal was a big one. I'm not saying that you should skip breakfast entirely, but rather than have a big breakfast, a small one might work better. I had always heard that you're supposed to, "eat breakfast like a king, eat lunch like a prince, and eat dinner like a pauper," but switching that around backwards is starting to make sense.

You're supposed to eat loads of smaller meals throughout the day, rather than just 3 big ones.

Honestly theres so much crap 'scientists' are putting out about what is and what isn't good for you, I don't listen to any of it. Most people are clever enough to know what is good and what is bad for them. Instead of teaching goldfish to play tetris and trying to clone bread, these guys should do something useful with the funding they are given.

I don't even eat breakfast generally anyway. While there is truth in his argument, if I'm hungry in the morning, I'm going to eat so there.

Dude, you need to understand why scientists do things similar to that. It's all baby steps. Greater than the sum of it's parts. ;)

Mmmhm.

Other than my first thing carb meal and my post work out fatty meal, everything else I eat is just spaced 3 hours apart.

That's the way to do it. :agreed:

I suppose this article's advice wouldn't be needed if Americans did not eat our (generaly speaking) largest meal in the evening.
