At some point in the future I'd like to get me a RG7321.

Now I know they only come in black, and I like black, but I got a crazy idea for a way to make mine very unique.

I would take off the strings, the hardware, the wiring, etc., and sand off the black finish (the headstock too).

Now here's where it gets "interesting."

Instead of painting it again with a different color, a swirl or a natural finish I'd cover it entirely in NEON GREEN DUCT TAPE!!

And on the headstock where it had once said "Ibanez" I put a sticker/decal/logo of some kind from the "Duck Tape" brand/company.

Then paint some kinda clearcoat over the duct tape so that it doesn't peel up or have the color wear off.

Now for a question.

Can be done and will it hold up?

EDIT: Oops, I meant 7321.

You don't wanna cover your guitar in neon green tape. Too much like the dude in atreyu, and we all know how cool he is, right?

it's not very unique IMO, noodles from the offspring has a signature guitar wrapped in duct tape.

RG7421 in neon green duct tape will be pretty cool though.

i think the neon/flourecent green would be awesome. as far as a duct tape finish, im not sure. i would have to see it. and im pretty sure you could use a automobile type clear spray available at most automotive stores. if you do it you better post pics :)

Whats wrong with Atreyu, besides they got their name from The Neverending Story? they get to see the world and play custom axes and don't have to work a 9-5 job. so how cool is he?

The only thing I would see wrong with that is how the tape might possibly effect your tone. Whenever I strip the clear and paint off of a guitar, it always sounds so much bigger/better. So I would worry that tape might do something weird to your tone.

I personally wouldn't do it, but to each ones own. :)

It will look sweet. Might sound different, but I'd actually be willing to bet that it would sound better than a laquered/plastic'ed guitar.

just wondering, if you're gonna wrap the whole body with neon green duct tape, why would you have to sand it all down? i mean, can't you just wrap it with duct tape just like that?

less work = more shred = always good LOL!

Why not go for some relective tape? If you go with white reflective, your guitar will look like its glowing under stage lights and in pictures. It is pretty epic.

Sounds like an interesting idea. Honestly I think it could go either way. It will look either really awesome or really bad. My guess if done right it would look badass.

Lookwise: Great Idea haha

Otherwise it MAY affect your tone, no clue. And just a heads up since I've done this BUT on a finished guitar so it may make a difference in your case, you will notice a fairly decent amount of weight added to the guitar believe it or not! At least mine did, especially when standing up!

I say go for it, it should look pretty cool. I covered my 7621 in camo duct tape once, it looked pretty sweet too!

yeah that would definately destroy your toneall together looks wise it might be cool but playing it will be bulky and uncomfortable and it won't sound very special so if you did that idea i wouldn't mess up a 7421 just go get a first act from walmart and goto town my friend! just my opinion.

The thing is, I won't be wanting to change it.

Also, I meant a 7321, typing on here really late at night is not always the best thing for catching mistakes like this.

@jymellis:
I would prefer a brush-on variety, the spray on stuff never looked really good to me, plus with a brush, I could orient the strokes relative to the "grain" of the duct tape.
