the sad true.
Why Gibson have a ton of limited models every 6 months? why not to produce more normal/standard production models?

So they can charge more for what is essentially the same thing.

Now I know the second reason I ignore them completely. The first being the thickness of the necks, but yeah. I kind of want an explorer, but it's getting to the point where owning one would feel 'dirty' unless I bought it used and didn't encourage them.

Come on guys, now you all are just hating on Gib$on. What is wrong with this guitar other than the stupid JB graphic? A real Gib$on, with an ebony finger board, and a Gib$on without a stop tail, seems pretty cool to me. It would sell for around $700.

I will be the first to spout out negative opinions of a product, but this one doesn't seem all that bad. Although, I wouldn't buy it.

I agree! If it didn't have the stupid graphic and was $700 it would be great. A Jr. with a wraparound is killer!

Think of a 7-string one of those with a bridge humbucker and no graphics (slurp)...

Find me a mainstream artist who is not head and shoulders deep into commercialism.

I'll give you a hint, they're the ones with no merch. ;)

I never said they were the only ones. What makes them special is that they're pop AND Disney.

Now I know the second reason I ignore them completely. The first being the thickness of the necks, but yeah.

I like the necks, they're the most comfortable I've ever felt.

Meh.

I saw the firebird x and thought: well, that's a niche product that actually takes away from the flexibility of a rig, rather than adding to it. Why would anybody want that?

I see this and think: why not?

I'm no fan of their music, I'm not going to succum to the overwhelmingly elitist attitude of "oh, they suck, they shouldn't get a sig guitar".

And I realize by saying that it might seem like I'm acting like an elitist towards all that do. HOWEVER, this is not the case because ohgofuckyourself.

hello from a lurker who felt the need to post! :wavey:

i think some of you forget something about siggies.

there seems to be a notion that siggies are about recognizing artistic talent.

siggies are about recognizing commercial draw. what artist has a name that will help push sales.
a crap guitarist with a big name is worth more as a signature model than a super niche artist that's the best guitarist since Jimi Hendrix.

siggies are a business deal, not a talent award.

Get a Hamer Standard (the Standard is the name of their Explorer shape), they're amazing guitars and some of the best of that type around.

I don't know, but for some reason, it's immensely funny to me that one of the most popular guitar manufacturers ever has an open message board for each of their products where people take the piss out of all their guitars.

EDIT: Forgot to add--Fucken epic failz0r, G1b$$$$$0n.

I'm no fan of Disney's music, I'm not going to succumb to the overwhelmingly elitist attitude of "oh, they suck, they shouldn't get a sig guitar".

Fixed that for ya. I strongly doubt they even write their own music, at least not without a pro Disney songwriter's assistance.

siggies are a business deal, not a talent award.

Absolutely true, but when you give sigs to people that will tarnish your brand name as a whole to most of your serious buyers, then it's kind of a stupid deal. Look at the comments on the thing, most people are laughing at how ridiculous Gibson is. And when you put kids like the Jonas brothers on a line next to their other sig players, it looks like some sort of a joke.

That's the part that pisses me off. When you look at the sigs Gibson has, there are some really great players:Jimmy Page, Buckethead, Neal Schon, and Steve Howe. Then you have people like the Jonas Brothers and Chad Koreger fucking everything up.
