I think the thread should just be titled "Alt-right group conspires to...", and then fill it in with all the acts of domestic terrorism we've got coming, thanks in large part to an administration that actively sought to embolden and empower them. I'm speaking as a Canadian, but I think the level of crazy that the extremist right has embraced will not be limited to borders by any means.

Have you seen Canadian Bacon starring John Candy?

But yeah, I guess this news isn't even worthy of its own thread these days.

This thread seems as good a place as any to say this.

You know, I'm of two minds about where we (the USA) are as a country. On the one hand, it's incredibly sad to literally watch the decimation of democracy and the deterioration and rot of the republic we once thought ourselves to be. On the other hand, and I know I'm not the only one that's able to say this, but haven't we felt this coming for a generation or more at this point.

Trump may have been the tipping point, but he's a symptom of the overall disease that's been eating us from the inside for far too long. The partisan politics. The inability to come together on any given issue. The ever widening swing of the political pendulum between elections. The widening gap in economic power. It's all been on a slow boil most of my life, and likely much longer than that. The fact that Trump could get elected was the ultimate tell that things are not OK in our country. People were/are not happy, no matter what your beliefs are. And there's only so far the collective psyche can stretch before you start seeing violence, events like these kidnappings, and all sorts of other acts of chaos begin increasing at an exponential rate.

Add in a president that insists at every moment on stoking the flames, and we're headed for a hurtin'.

It all just makes me shake my head. And then reach for the bottle to numb the pain long enough to get some sleep.

At this point I find this hilarious but expected. All these cosplayers, militia men, 3%er's or whatever they wanna call themselves need to do a little reading about the night of the long knives.
Basically, when Hitler needed to consolidate power he sent out the gestapo & the SS to take out the brown shirts (paramilitary group made up of armed citizens/militias and played a big role in Hitler's rise to power) when they no long served a purpose to his regime.
The parallels in human history are uncanny, unsettling, and fucking hilarious all at the same time.

Let's see... The president is inspiring militia's to kidnap governors and asking his AG to indict his main political rival. What's the spin on this one?

i think this is a lot more serious than people are taking it. i also think its probably happening in a lot of other parts of the country.

this wasn't one loner nut job. this was a team of people that had rehearsed, fundraised and would have attempted this if the FBI didn't arrest them.

trump is speaking directly to these people. these were the same people that brought assault weapons into the capital when trump said to liberate Michigan from the lock downs.

trump wont condemn white supremacy and always pivots to antifa to change the subject. last i checked antifa isn't even an organized group but there are militia groups like this all over and antifa has never been arrested for planning something like this.

can you imagine if these guys were black or muslim? this would be the non stop story on fox. TERRORISTS OMG!!!! i think this is another indication that there will be civil unrest shortly.

Honestly, if Trump doesn't lose by such a landslide that it's not immediately clear he's lost on election night, that's a risk. The polls are moving heavily in Biden's favor, though, and if on the morning of the 4th Biden has a couple point lead in enough swing states to carry the election, then it really won't matter, but the nightmare scenario is if Trump leads after the in-person voting is complete, and then (wrongfully) alleges massive voter fraud as the reason his lead evaporates over the next few days, there's gonna be bloodshed when he calls his followers into the streets.

There's already civil unrest. My fear is the "civil" part is beginning to evaporate.

As I said in the election thread, more and more people on either side seem to think violence is alright to get your political agenda implemented. And that's something that should be troubling for everybody.

I can't believe we as a country have allowed the elite to divide us so thoroughly that attempting to follow doctor's guidelines for a pandemic leads to people wanting to kidnap or even kill you. It's a level of collective insanity I had hoped to not live to see.

Another not so shocking stat: Out of 42 extremist related killings last year, 38 of them were committed by far right extremists.

So the left is responsible for four out of 42. Interesting in the face of all the people screaming that the left is responsible for all the violence in our country. Granted, it's easy to say that when you think the other side caused your violent actions.

Cue Barr not prosecuting or Trump pardoning.
Oh and I forgot, a million dollar GoFundMe and RNC speaking engagement too for the poor oppressed seditionists...I mean patriots.
Or as we like to call it, the "Kyle" treatment.

Fox17 showed footage of Null appearing onstage at the rally, carrying a long gun and standing alongside Barry County Sheriff Dar Leaf as the sheriff lashed out at Whitmer in a speech to the crowd.

In a shocking interview with Fox 17 on Thursday, Leaf said he had no regrets for having appeared at the rally with the recently arrested militiaman. He added that he knew Null — as well as his identical twin, Michael, who was also arrested in the terror plot — and called the brothers “nice” and “respectful.” He also appeared to defend the Nulls’ motive for the alleged kidnapping plot, arguing that there’s a legal argument to be made that Whitmer should be arrested for imposing coronavirus restrictions.

Your link says the 4 remaining killings were carried out by people with prior ties to the "Black Israelite Movement" and considered "other", since it's hard to place the specific beliefs of the perpetrators squarely on one side of the spectrum or the other. So, by technicality, left wing extremism is responsible for 0 killings in 2019.

At this rate America may be careening towards its very own version of Italy's "Years of Lead". It beggars belief that anyone could truly believe that this is going to just stop if Biden gets in. Over the past few years Trump and conservative media outlets have been sowing seeds of doubt among their followers with regards to the validity of any election result in which Trump isn't re-elected. To hear them tell it, any Biden victory, whether by a few points or a landslide, would be tantamount to proof of nefarious meddling by the Democratic Party and the "Deep State". I'm not personally confident that Biden will win (or even be competitive despite his current poll numbers), but I can't help but feel that regardless of how things turn out the worst is likely yet to come.

I'm incredibly glad these psychos were thwarted. I felt sick to my stomach when the president said "Somebody's got to do something about antifa and the left" and passed off violent racial attacks as coming from the left wing.
And yeah, ANTIFA is a decentralized movement. But it's worth noting that Anti Fascist movements occurr to combat encroaching facism ffs. The only people I personally know who dislike ANTIFA are bigots who have been called out for it and need something to lash out at. It's outrageous to me that people legitimately believe an anti-fascist movement is the problem and not you know, FASCISM.
