The new Epiphone LP prices are ridiculous. 1300$ for a made in China LP. Jesus needs to hurry up.

As far as cavities IDGAF what it looks like, but the truss rod access should be presentable even if it's covered. I like to take my truss rod covers off because they are a PITA and look dumbassed most of the time. Some of my prestige's truss rod access looks like a larded up knot hole some logger sanded dry with his pecker.

I played one of the cheaper MIC LPCs a few days ago. It seemed to play really nice though I wasn't able to lower the action to where I really wanted it.

They had the new non-graphic AJ Epiphone way up on the wall, and it looked great. I didn't ask to bring it down since I had no intention of buying it.

I'm trying to say that the prices don't seem to bad because from what I saw, they seem like nice guitars.

in line with Epi prices - compare them to similar elsehwere.
LTD EC 1000's are going for about $2100-$2500 CAD. Different esthetics.
PRS SE, depending on the models, the top tier are around the same price point, yet different esthetics.
Schecter Solo line is also about $2100-2500 CAD. Different esthetics.
Dean Thoroughbred? yeah, it looks weird and price ranges from $600 to $1800ish CAD.
Ibanez Artist series? Different esthetics.

Japanese guitars? different market...

really, there is nothing directly competing against Epiphone where dollar for dollar its the same thing. Agile? not exactly. Nothing else is directly competing it. as such, are they expensive? comparing to what? to what they were 10 years ago? sure...but that doesn't really serv any purpose as EVERYTHING has gone up over the last 10 years.

right now, whatever Epiphone is offering is cheaper than its direct competition.
sure, you can buy EC 1000's and Solo 6s's for cheap, but you can also do that with epiphone whenever they become available used.

you like the esthetics, the handwear, the specs etc of the recent Epiphones? Okay, then save up and get it accordingly. Something 'better' exists elsewhere and cheaper? okay, then get that as Epiphone is not catering to you, specifically. Vote with your wallet. And if you're priced out of it, keep in mind that Gibson's Studios and tributes, along with Traditional and Classics dont go for too much higher used than a new Epiphone IBG is going these days. Studio's can be had for about half the price of what new epiphones have been going for.

so really, you have plenty of choices. If epiphone, specifically, isn't catering to your price point, then you are spoiled for choices with other brands out there.

This is the mindset. Replace 'Epiphone' with any other brand out there. I think Rolex steel sports models should be USD3k in line with inflation since the 70s but I'm still gonna get a modern GMT when circumstances allow.

What finish is the one you're holding? Like a very faded tobacco burst? Looks great with the plain top.
Green lemon - expose a cherry finish to a lot of sun and it’ll end up here.

What does the "staple" (or whatever they're called) neck pup in the R4 sound like? Is it that different from a p90?

Afaik its still P90 but a different character. The weight had me bummed out (plus a fussy baby in tow) so I didnt plug it in.

Yeah, it’s a P90 with bar pole pieces rather than adjustable screws. They sound like a slightly brighter, more articulate P90 which is probably why you tend to see them in the neck position.

I have one in my Edwards and it sounds really good but the only other P90 I have to compare it to is a BG Pure90 and there are a couple differences between guitars that make comparing them moot. I don't think it sounds inherently bright, I would use the work silky. Very warm all around. Full low end and kind of a compressed sounding top end. Not strident at all.
It also is a Duncan custom shop pickup so of course it sounds pretty good.

I just love how a '54-type LPC looks.
