Like I said, there's a basic part that comes to mind when you hear any riff, and you can improve on that but that basic line will always be there (that's what I meant with "of course there are infinite variations of that beat, but you get the idea...")...I am not saying it is simple or easy...
usually when I write I have in mind what the drums for that part should sound like, and the transitions from the previous part and to the next part...if a drummer can't feel it and has problems playing out of his comfort zone, it's time to say bye...it is actually pretty obvious, a certain riff...
