You should pursue education based on your goals and needs. From what I understand, programs like MI focus on performance and recording, whereas Berklee is more theory and composition. I have no experience with music schools like those, so I can't comment. Paul Gilbert went to MI/GIT, and I recall him expounding his thoughts in some interview somewhere.

Education is a tough choice. It's a matter of identifying what you want and how to get it. You can learn everything from the web, it's an unstable source. Many guitarists pick things up here and there, but they get it in no particular order and end up with huge gaps in their understanding. The (largely misunderstood) concept of polyrhythm is a frequent topic of conversation here, but I'd guess that most people in those discussions don't know what a dominant seventh chord is. What any decent music program will do is present things in an ordered manner, so that you don't just know the material, but you understand it as well.
Sure, dude. This one is more orderly than a lot of other sites that teach theory: Ricci Adams' Musictheory.net

Basically, in a triad, there are three notes: the root, the third, and the fifth. The relation of the third and fifth to the root determines the quality of the chord. That is to say that a minor third and a perfect fifth create a minor triad, a minor third and a diminished fifth create a diminished triad, a major third and a perfect fifth make a major triad, and a major third and an augmented fifth make an augmented triad.
