    I see I see. Thanks for the info :yesway:. How much of a role does compression play in your drum mixing?
    Hey man...I really like that track "Memoirs." Your drums sound really good :yesway:. I was just wondering, since you use superior, do you layer multiple samples? Like for snare, kick, toms, etc. Do you just use one sample for piece, or do you pick and choose from different version of SD and blend them together?
    Sup dude. If you get a chance please check out my thread in the recording forum called rate my drum mix. You always have the best critiques and criticism as to what can and ultimatly will make mixes better. Thanks man
    Hey I was wondering if you would be able to help me getting started mixing, just a few pointers for starting? I've read up a bit on compression and the like, but I'm not really sure what plugins to start off using, whether to go with Pro-Tools/Reapers plug-ins or whether there are better free ones around.

    I have no clue really where I should be starting with mixing, other then adding compression and EQ, which I know takes a while to master, but its more just how I should be setting it up with what plugins?
    Firth is atm my go-to drum mixing example. You indeed exceeded yourself on it. I'm not much of a poster, maybe I should have left a comment there, but I didn't want to get in the way of the constructive posts.

    Keep it up Kurk! Looking forward to your SD 2.0 secrets you talked about posting :)
    Nah, you're really, really good at it, and I know when i need to reference for a near-perfect mix I just have to search one of your latest :wub:

    Just wanted you to know that you are a great help for people and you're good at what you do :)
    hey man, yeah ive been writing heaps of stuff, not particularly pleased with any of it though :lol: im waiting for something special to happen haha

    ps. put out an EP/album already :fawk:
    Hey Kurk. Sorry, been out of internetz so haven't been able to respond. Regarding your phasing issues on the bass, I couldn't really identify the source of it, but here's some things you could try;

    - Shorten the delay on the stereo enhancer. A too low value will make it sound mono. My sweetspot is 5ms for clean, 7ms for distorted (Yeah I stereo-tool'd them both now)

    - Do the high-pass on distorted track higher up the spectrum, like 2.5KHz or so. Alternatively, you can include GMulti (after stereo tool) to use its middle band to pull the mid-range closer to center.

    - Put an overdrive before whatever amp you use on the distorted track. It really helps the amp to distort a lot better, which in turn eliminates any possibility of clean vs. distorted phasing. I use TSE808 for this.
    Okay, so I'm casually away to New York for a week so I'll get you the track I'd like to see mastered after then. Looking foward to hearing what you come up with!
