    Alternatives to Kalium?

Thanks for all the suggestions guys. Winspear does sound like a great option for my 9-string, if they make strings up to .120 then I'm in luck, because my thickest string is currently a .118 from Kalium. I spent a lot of time calculating what string gauge would be suitably stiff tuned so low and...

    Alternatives to Kalium?

Kalium is a known bet for ultra fat strings for extended-range guitars, but their customer service and responsiveness is dogshit, I've seen someone in another thread recommend another company that offers the same stuff but with an overall better customer experience, is there still any like that...

The ergonomics and viability of super wide fret fanning

You can judge by eye where the perpendicular fret is. Sometimes there isn't one, because the frets are calculated mathematically, but in your case it looks like it's either the 7th or the 8th. Meaning it should theoretically somewhat favor the nut. Anything closer to the nut than the 12th fret...

The ergonomics and viability of super wide fret fanning

Yeah, well the thing is, you could easily select the neutral fret to be at the nut if you wanted, but then you'd have to deal with a progressively bigger slant towards the bridge, with the highest frets possibly being so curved that it'd be weird to do sweep picks on them. I'd probably be more...

The ergonomics and viability of super wide fret fanning

Where's your neutral fret? That definitely affects the playability and a properly selected neutral fret can probably mitigate a lot of potential problems from a fan too wide, compared to if the fret was poorly chosen. I found on fretfind2d that the 9th fret being perpendicular makes even a 4.5''...

The ergonomics and viability of super wide fret fanning

Well, it's not like I'm a perfect judge, but that slant doesn't look all that unplayable actually, at least in the diagram...

The ergonomics and viability of super wide fret fanning

I just know that 25,5'' is the standard gauge for the electric guitar, so that gives you optimal playability and customizability, since both lighter and heavier gauges will work too. 27'' for the higher string will definitely work too, but some of the thicker high E string variants you could...

The ergonomics and viability of super wide fret fanning

I own a non-fanned 30'' nine-stringer and my conclusion is that 8-strings guitar are probably the ideal number of strings for a guitar, since you can do a fan like 25,5''-28,5'' or something and enjoy perfect string stiffness on each string, while also retaining the ability to choose heavier...

    Broken EMG pickup?

I did the dumbest thing and it worked - I unscrewed the switch and swapped the front and rear plates, now it works :D Of course I had to rotate the switch so that the switch positions correspond to the pickups, but that was the easiest part I guess.

    Broken EMG pickup?

I took out the pickup and made sure the wire was connected to it fine, and after redoing it, it worked. But then I switched to read and then mid, and upon switching back to neck, I can't hear a thing again. So it most likely is something with the cables around the switch, I think.

    Broken EMG pickup?

Actually it may have been the battery, I swapped it out and it's better, or maybe even completely alright already. Thanks for the advice tho

    Broken EMG pickup?

I've noticed that with the pickup switch in the forward position, I hear absolutely nothing when playing through Fortin - with some insane boosts from the preamp it becomes audible, but normally I can't hear anything. Also, in middle and back positions, I hear absolutely no difference. Does that...

    Ergonomics of widely fanned frets

Well, this here for example is Halo Octavia 9 string, it's got 30-28''. The fan doesn't look extremely aggressive just looking at it, at least in my opinion. 25,5'' is probably best for the high E if you want to bend it and be able to use thicker strings if you'd like, but a 30-25,5'' fan sounds...

    Ergonomics of widely fanned frets

I've stumbled on Wes Lambe's webpage, where he sells custom 8 string guitars whose bottom 3 strings have bass tuners & pickups - anyway, the scale difference is 29''-25''. That's a 4'' fan. How would that be in terms of ergonomics on a non-hybrid guitar? Wouldn't a hugely aggressive fan such as...

Agile Chiral Parallax - any point to the models with more than 8 strings?

E: Kalium Universal Length .08” Plain Guitar String - Improvement over the La Bella .09 string marginal - it still only bends half a tone (before I encounter significant resistance that I don't want to push past for fear of breaking the string, at least), but it's fully comfortable to achieve...
