Hi all!
Almost all lessons on Meshuggah focus on their rhythms (for obvious reasons!) but I've rarely seen discussion of their note choice. I've created this lesson series that's designed to give you an idea of the way they write their riffs but it requires no previous theory knowledge -...
How many SS.org buzzwords can I put in one thread title?
Anyway, these are my covers of things that have made me say "Dat riff!" recently. Any suggestions or criticism much appreciated!
Hope you enjoy them, let me know if this is in the wrong section or whatever...
Hey there, pretty much what it says on the tin, here's a video outlining the basic thought processes and mechanics -
And here's two videos full of licks/exercises that you can use to develop your own ideas with. If annotations don't work you'll have to click through to get the tabs and...
Tabs for everything I played - Cloudkicker tabs.zip - 4shared.com - online file sharing and storage - download - Dan Crawford
(I did the covers on a 7 so they're tabbed for a 7, notes should be correct for a drop tuned 6, but you'll have to do the transposing yourself.)
Hope you guys enjoy...
Been a while since I posted here consistently, I now own 1 more 7 and one less 8 so I figured it was time to come back! :)
Basically I feel that most "exercises" available online are just stock shred licks. These are pretty poor for developing technique (nowhere near focused enough!) and...
Now I know you guys don't know me, don't know Arcen games, etc.
But if every games company was as awesome as them we'd have free sequels, real input into the future of the game, and real strategy instead of furious micro of unit that should be clever enough to take care of themselves...

The PODxt pro can be reamped simply, but it seems that the PODxt requires trickier work-arounds.
If anyone has the patience to describe in "Re-amping for dummies" terms how best to go about this or viable alternatives, I would appreciate it greatly. :)
Spotted that the Jens interviews had been posted but now theres loads of Tomas stuff, hopefully not too old! Enjoy!

While I dread posting any guitar/drum jam material when this thread - http://www.sevenstring.org/forum/general-music-discussion/88197-bulb-periphery-matt-halpern-and-bulb-jamming-live-drums-engl-invader-2.html#post1546341 - is extant, I suppose I might just summon up the nerve to post this...
I always dug the way Paul Gilbert or Shawn came up with crazy licks based on expanding small musical motifs or technical ideas. Here's some examples.

EDIT for clarity - this is not my first year of playing, rather a snapshot of my "shredding" skillz at approximately 4.5 years and 5.5 years of playing. :)
(do you guys seriously know anyone who can play as well as this after a year? I need to pull my socks up and get the metronome...
Hi there, I'm Daniel, although to be completely honest, I almost answer to "Freepower" or "FP" even in real life now, let alone UG (where I moderate Guitar Techniques, Musician Talk and 80s Rock/Shred/Progressive) or the Memphis Monster forums or Toribash or No Mutants Allowed...
I'm a...
