I believe you're correct. Only issue I've found is the thickness of the neck. The BTB's tend to have a bit more beef to them.
Since he's a guitarist, I still recommend the SR's.
I personally haven't played that model. But from what I know of BTB's and SR's since you are a guitarist I say go for the SR. They tend to be easier for guitarists to switch too.
Best option would be to play as many BTB's and SR's as you can, that way you get a really good feel for which...
I personally would recommend Ibanez. I've been playing them for well over a year now and they give me everything I need. Great and versatile tones on the bass itself, flat and very comfortable neck shape, and are durable. Not to mention all of my guitarist friends love the SR series because it's...
I'm almost positive it's a bass cab. It's ported like a bass cab. I'll be doing a bit more research on it in the meantime. Now, my friend threw this out on me. Would it be possible to convert it into a 6x10?
I really just got it as a .... around project. To start learning how to wire speakers...
Thanks for the response. I'm most likely going to go with some Eminence. I've played cabs with their speakers and they do the job well. Any Neo speakers that you would recommend?
I'm going to be getting an empty 4x12 cab this week, since it's only $20, I thought it would be a fun project to get new speakers and wire it for bass.
So my question is, what 12 inch speakers do you recommend and should I wire it for 8 or 4 ohms?
That's awesome of him.
There's only one person where I'm from that plays extended range bass. Unfortunately we are both broke as hell and are both looking for 7 stringers.
605 vs 505 there's not much to really say one is "better". The only true difference is slight changes in the selected woods. So at that point it's whether or not you feel like chipping in the X amount of dollars to buy the 605.
But if you really want a nice bass. Dig around and find a used...
I would say get an Ibanez SR505. Or better yet. Save up a bit more and get an Ibanez BTB575.
Fender is good and all. But for your price range most of what is available isn't the best, IMO.
I live near Sweetwater and they always have Fenders of all price ranges on the wall, and I've yet to play...
If you do some digging around you could potentially find a hartke Lh500 head and a decent cab for that price range.
But as Veldar said, if the venue has DI go that route.
Issue with that is many places either have DI and are too stupid to use it, or are too stupid to mix it properly. At least...
Without knowing dimensions of the pickups it's a little difficult to recommend specific pickups. But definitely look into Nordstrands. Extremely clear and very easy to tweak into your perfect tone.
If a work horse is what you want. Look for a used SR505. Better pickups, electronics, woods, and construction.
But if that's out of the price range, look at the used Sr405's as well.
The 305's just don't seem to be very versatile tonally and don't feel very comfortable as compared to other SR's
I'm pretty sure D'addario has tapered strings in .135
And like many others before me, Circle K must be mentioned. I have some on my SR706 and they feel amazing. (130 set so it's a bit flubby, but still)
I would say, even though the SR5006 is a wonderful bass (wenge is my weakness), I suggest looking into a premium series, SR1206E or if you want a 35 inch scale the BTB1406E. Quality is just as good (as far as I can tell), comes with Nordstrand Big Singles, which I prefer over Barts. The 1406E is...
D'addario offers a 135 tapered bass string. May want to try that out after your next change of strings? Not quite sure what your brand of choice is lol
He's got it right on strings. It'll do the job, but I personally prefer a little more tension in my strings. I would recommend a 135 set instead. But do your own research and go to some guitar shops and play some 5 strings (since you're already tuning in that territory) most will have 130 sets...
