I'm replacing the Loomis Blackouts with these in my Loomis SL7.
I've had weird issues with those and the EMG 57/66-7 sets with regard to EMI in our apartment. Wi-Fi and cell phone signals cause lots of noise for both. Much worse than actives without exposed poles (which are as quiet as you'd...
Question in the title.
I see that the Original Floyd Rose has undergone some minor redesigns in the past couple years. I've noticed that the locking nuts are much more consistent and less likely to produce "sitar" noises due to rough metal where strings leave the nut, plus the markings are...
Gotcha.
If I didn't already have 3 USAs then I would be very tempted by this. Even if it were a bit of a project to clean-up. Hard to find arch top USAs, even harder in a finish like that!
Not a bad price at all for something that's upper-tier unobtanium.
I'm sure the board would darken up nicely. But I have to ask, "why spec a custom with no sharkies and rosewood?" 1993 was a different world, I guess.

I'm with you on most everything except not needing to dress fret ends. On a guitar of any level that can happen over time due to wood shrinking and expanding. I don't count that against even a super high end model. It takes like 20mins to an hour in front of the TV or < $50 at a shop.
Also, on...
Maybe they're better without Ed?
As an early teen I actually went there during a family vacation to the southwest. Despite his rep the store did have cool stuff as I recall. I think most of the issue was building fakes, the questionable build quality of their "custom" stuff, and Ed's...
Weird. I've been using mineral oil-based fretboard conditioners and cleaners for 20 years at this point, on both rosewood and ebony. Never had an issue. I can assure you, that is not what your problem was.
Boston area: Axe Palace and Matt's Music come to mind. AP has very nice stuff, and is run by some very opinionated people who I mostly agree with. Just be prepared to be presented with their opinions on gear in equal measure to what you actually want. Matt's carries less high end stuff than they...
What adverse thing happened to them, may I ask?
I lightly oil them, basically cleaning + wipe off with whatever dunlop lemon oil/fretboard conditioner product is in my toolbox, once a year. With that kind of care they look nice and avoid the fret end sprout that can happen when the board...
