I’ve been closing some gigs with Hey Joe recently. I find that E minor pentatonic and maybe E Dorian work for the first 4 chords, and then switching to E mixolydian sounds cool over the E maj.

I’m playing a show where the theme is 90s rock.

Are there any 90s songs that have chords that would allow me to use these scales similarly? They don’t have to be in E of course.

This is simply better known as switching between an m3 and M3. It is all over jam band stuff, like Allman Brothers Band, Clapton, etc.

Sorry I can’t reference specific 90s songs though. Any I IV V you should be safe to do this over.
