Is there a "recommended" way to record an acoustic direct? I've got an Ibanez with a 3 band EQ in it. The wound strings sound great, the unwound sound a LOT louder, and more...

Round? Strum your guitar (electric) on the neck, instead of by the bridge. My acoustics sound like that. How do bands like Days of the New get that smooth, "raw" acoustic sound?

When i Record my Acoustic (Ibanez AEF-18), i run it through my preamp first but pretty much turn everything on it off. I do this to balence out the sound.. I dunno if this is the right way..but it seems to work. Sometimes I add a touch of reverb ...

Maybe try one of these?

Add-on piezos for acoustics. I don't know how hard they are to install though. (doesn't look too difficult)
