Hey there!

Since I'm about to built an 8 string guitar (similar to the RG2228) I'd like to know if it is needed to install 2 carbon fiber neck rods.
It's going to be a 27" scale with 1 truss rod.

If I need them... what dimensions should the be?

thank you!

Chris

I think he means in addition to the truss rod, as outlined here:
STEWMAC.COM : Instructions for Carbon Fiber Neck Rods
I haven't had a chance to build a wide enough bass or guitar neck to have personal experience with this yet, but a lot of the 8 strings guitars or 6 strings basses I've seen either have 2 truss rods or 1 rod with other reinforcement. The RG2228 neck is reinforced with KTS Titanium rods, and Dingwall has carbon fiber reinforcement as a standard in most (or all?) of their 5 and 6 string basses.

yes I mean the carbon fiber rods! (or anything else to reinforce the neck)

I guess a "normal" steel rod would be too heavy/not strong enough?

You could just used two truss rods and no carbon fibre seeing as its expensive stuff.

i guess it depends on what kind of woods you are goin to use for the neck and how much thick will it be, btw to be sure i wont have some problems with it i used the 2 carbon fiber+truss rod on my 7string.

if you plan on making a neck profile similar to what ibanez does (thin/wide) with their RG's then I believe reinforcement such as carbon fiber would be needed. something other than carbon fiber could be used. as mentioned earlier in the thread ibanez uses titanium rods, although if you were building this from scratch then you may choose what you wanted to use

Well I'd go for some steel-profiles (stainless) then... when that works?!?!

Yeah sorry forgot to mention that the neck+body will be maple!
