Handmade East model by Sam Evans of Cardinal Instruments located in Austin, Texas.
Specs:
• Honduran mahogany body (1-piece)
• Copper veneer flat top with custom patina (oxidized)
• 25.5” scale length
• Bolt-on construction
• Honduran mahogany neck (1-piece)
• Neck thickness: 0.84” (1st fret) to 0.90” (12th fret)
• Indian rosewood fretboard with 12” radius
• 22 jumbo frets
• Pickups: Cardinal Hb (bridge) and Cardinal Hb (neck)
• Controls: 3-way toggle pickup selector; volume knob
• Treble bleed circuit installed
• Wilkinson (Gotoh) V100N tremolo
• Hipshot locking tuners
A high-quality Gator hardcase will be included in the sale.
This copper-topped East is spec-ed identically to Josh Elmore’s main, copper-topped East that he plays in Cattle Decapitation. The only differences are the volume pot placement and that Josh has a set of Suhr Aldrich pickups installed in his main East; whereas, this particular East has Sam Evans’ own in-house humbuckers that Sam makes himself. The pickups have a contemporary voicing and modern output with the bridge pickup’s resistance reading at 16k and the neck pickup’s resistance reading at 9k.
Without a doubt, this is one of the most well-constructed guitars that I have ever played. Every aspect of this East contributes to it feeling like one, coherent, living, breathing entity. The neck profile of this East feels thinner than you’d expect given the measurements, and the fit and finish of the neck are unbelievably smooth to the touch. There is some serious mojo that can be felt while you’re holding this East in your hands; and you as the player can truly tell that every detail of the East’s design was carefully thought out and executed by Sam.
CONDITION:
This is an absolute collector’s piece of an instrument. Truly in "like new" condition with the only cosmetic blemish being some slight (yet oddly placed) scratching on the metal neck heel plate.
