Holy ...., is this...Post-Jazz?

I don't speak/read Japanese, but I follow the well-known band Toe. Today on facebook they posted a link to this, which appears to be another band which includes Toe's guitarist. Reminds me a bit of a lot of the first wave post rock bands, like Cul de Sac and Tortoise and Slint

it's good music but I cringe at saxaphones, I never liked them. And the fact that they are so trendy now just makes it worse. there's a hundred other expressive instruments yet everyone nowadays chooses the saxaphone.

I listen to enough jazz that sax doesn't seem "trendy" to me - it's a pretty standard melodic instrument. Call me when there's a crumhorn trend.

There's not really anything jazzy about that at all apart from the instrumentation, just sounds like post rock with a horn arrangement. A really out of tune horn arrangement! I like the music, but man, several of those held chords are painful. I can't tell if it's a saxophonist or the trumpet player, but there are some bad examples of that wavering volume effect you get with instruments that are out of tune with each other

Jeez man, that's a pretty silly sounding statement in my opinion. Wasn't guitar "trendy" since it became the focus of popular music? It replaced piano as the most common instrument found in the home, must have seemed like hipster bullshhit to more traditional piano-instructed musicians back in the day...

jk... But if you like this sort of nu-jazz, you've really missed out on a lot of stuff that was going around last decade - namely Cinematic Orchestra, Jazzanova, Jaga Jazzist - when people were debating 'trip hop' vs 'chill out' vs 'ambient music' (same feces)

It's when you take a form of music into a realm that it hasn't seen before while still staying true to it's genre (to an extent). If you want to get an idea:
