Ive been playing for 8 or 9 years now, and while im decent, i recently realized i really need to improve not only my technique but also my understanding of theory. I have some knowledge of theory but i feel like im in a bit of a rut trying to figure out where to go next. I havent practiced scales in a long time so i figured id start there and play along to a metronome.
I guess what im asking is, what would be a good way to structure learning theory while not boring myself to tears? Would it be a good idea to start with the major scale and work my way through the modes? Maybe play a scale followed by a chord progression? There has to be some way to make this fun, right?
