How Long Before String Changes?

I'd just change strings before I started. The sessions weren't being overseen by Bob Rock.

When I played bass, I'd often not bother. I played on a couple studio tracks last year, and the strings were probably a few months old. Sounded fine.

I like to have a fresh set for every song, but I'll sometimes do two songs if the first one went by quickly and the strings are still relatively bright. Bass is generally done every other song unless I need to change strings for a different tuning anyway.
