I think that stuff like this (i.e. 1980s reissues) is priced more on "what the market will bear" than anything else. These are going to appeal to people who A) know who EVH is, and grew up with his stuff, and B) are old enough because of that to have enough discretionary cash to make a nostalgia purchase of $2199.

And the scary thing is that $2200 is the equivalent of $1850 just 3 years ago, due to the crazy inflation we've had (in the US).

I think if they'd released these closer to EVH's passing, they'd have sold like hotcakes. But, I'm glad they didn't.

Don't they have a cheaper version of this guitar?
Sort of. They have Baretta shaped guitars all the way down below $200. But they're not exactly like this (or MIJ). But yeah, if you're just going for the general look, then you can get a way cheaper one.

I think if I saw a black Floyd in 1983 I would have really wanted one.

…but I don’t think I did.

edit: Wrong, they existed. I chose the Charvel pointy to spend my summer wages on, over the Baretta. Fun fact, $1000 in 1983 could buy a lot of guitar.

For those that don’t know the current / reissue lineup: Kramer Baretta has multiple tiers… from $299 to $1099. The standard MII is $799 and the graphic ones are 999-1099.

Then they also have the non-hockey stick Barettas like the Sabo and the Strike First.
