I have an Orange 212 closed back cab and am looking to purchase a new amp. One of the amps that I am keen on getting is a Mark V or the Mark V 25. I would like to ask if anyone knows if either of those amps can be used together with an Orange 2x12 cab? My cab is 16ohms, with 2 8ohm Celestion Vintage 30 speakers wired in series and a power handling of a 120watts(mono). How will they go together? Your inputs are much appreciated, thanks.

Should work fine. Read the manual on either amp. It details how to use these amps with 16 ohm cabs.

Are you playing in a band, or just at home by yourself? What kind of music? I found that with the V25, it could not keep up with a heavy hitting drummer playing metal. It would squeal like a pig the entire time, almost. However, once I traded it for the Mark V, I found that I much preferred the tone of the 25 watter. Just some food for thought.

I see, I am not in a band, just a bedroom guitarist mostly. I play Metal, Rock a bit of Djent, very versatile. That's interesting, I saw some reviews where they sound quite similar, except that the 90 watt has a bit more brightness. I guess the 25 is more of a practice amp, and the 90 watt is more of a studio/live amp.

My bad, I think I got it the other way around, the 25 watt is a bit more brighter and has less low end

I loved the tone of the 25 watter. I originally bought it for playing at home, but then joined a band...figures. Thus, the trade for the 90 watter. The 25 is a lot easier to dial in and has a smoother overall character to the gain. I found the 90 to be a little grainier. 25 watter does better at low volumes, too...the 90 is great at low volumes, but the 25 is just a little better.

The Mark V manual has tons of info you arae looking for! Manual page 53 but PDF page 57.

I too have been looking into Mark series amps, I am really interested in the JP-2C but since I am a crappy bedroom player I am leaning towards a Mark V 25 or 35 (can't decide either if I want the smaller amp or if the 35's extra power might give me extra beef or headroom just in case I want or need it).

You could run the cab into either the 4 or 8 ohm out and be ok. But I would likely just rewire the cab in parallel and have a 4 ohm cab. Run it into a 4 ohm out and you are all good.

I like my mark 5 25 but do find it a bit woofy when loud.

Any reason why you're not considering the Mark V:35? I just ordered a custom colored 35 and closed back Avatar 212, so we're looking at pretty similar rigs. Personally, I knew the 25 wouldn't cut it with jamming with my drummer, and the 90 would just be overkill for what I need. I was pretty set on the Mark V series early because i really wanted the versatility though.

I know the 90 watt Mark V only has speaker outs for 4 and 8 ohms. But it even says in the manual that they are very tolerant of ohm mismatches. Just don't go under 4 ohm and you should be fine.

Just a FYI...the Mark V:90 does have a 45-watt mode also with a choice of tube or diode rectifier. More clean headroom at the 45-watt level is never a bad thing :) .

The 35 watt version hasn't arrived at Malaysia yet, and will only be available over here around September. Congrats on your purchase!

Would anyone know the sound the Mark V series would produce through the Orange Cab just as it is? I don't want to rewire it. Is there a major difference compared to the Mesa 2X12? And what would those differences be?

It will sound fine with the Orange cab. I wouldn't worry about it much at all. Some people say they can hear a difference between ohms in cabs, but I haven't really noticed. In fact, I bought a 212 a few years ago that I was told was wired to 8 ohms. When I swapped the speakers a couple weeks later, I found that it was actually wired to 32 ohms lol. Sounded fine and didnt hurt my 5150 at all. I think people tend to make a bigger deal out of it than it really is. And Mesas manual specifically says you can run it with 16 ohm cabs, with instructions on how to hook up various cabs.

And yes, the 90 watt Mark V has 45 and 10 watt modes, and each sound mostly similar but work a little better with lower volume. Having said that, though, I still think the 25 sounds better and is easier to dial in than the full size.
