My first (and perhaps last) venture into this portion of ss.org. This article scratches a little deeper at how companies like Guitar Center are caught in the cross-fire of capitalism and the cancel culture.

tl;dr Removing Fulltone has little impact to the company and might look good in the headlines. However, if they apply that logic to other brands, there might be nothing left.

i'm just really curious on the pics for the used gear. how did every location get the first digital camera ever made? they shoot one pic as they are walking away eating a sandwich with the other hand and just post it without even looking to see how out of focus and blurry it is and are like, nailed it.

Because they're usually done by underpaid and understaffed ops/warehouse workers who have a million other things to do in a short amount of time with management breathing down their necks, or occasionally by underpaid and understaffed sales guys who's main concern and bulk of time is spent taking care of the customers in front of them.

Fulltone guy says something that some might consider terrible, and some might not. Negative press ensues. Guitar Center decides not to carry their pedals.

Now the National Review, who was not writing about Steven Tyler, Jimmy Page, or Chuck Berry (note: the three had very problematic minor relationships) related merchandise prior to this week, bravely asks, "Whattabout those guys, huh?" They then proceed, whilst clutching their pearls, to demand that Guitar Center purge themselves of all such artist related merchandise or be hereby expelled from the quarterly meetings of the Cognitive Consonance club.

We, the reader, are left to conclude that they care about the damage done by Jimmy Page Signature Les Pauls. This is certainly not a case of merely raging against negative consequences from a poor marketing and PR decision by a pedal company's owner.

How dumb does this guy need to be to not realize the extra degree of distance in his examples? The *head* of a pedal company says dumb stuff vs. the head of a company does nothing, except work with artists, who they themselves may do or have done something in the past. It's not hypocrisy at all -- it's irrelevant comparison.

Why not take it one degree further, and say that Epstein once played a telecaster, a guitar manufactured by Fender, so Fender should be dropped. Are you serious about this, GC?

If the *head* of Gibson/Fender tweeted something racist, we could consider the double-standard. Of course, there's really no need to think about things. If the head of Gibson tweeted something racist, he wouldn't be the head of Gibson anymore.
