Hey guys!

By recommendation of Mr. Deadpool_25, I contacted BFG to make me a vertical 2x12. But this one is ported and can fit a 27" head on top. Since I like the sound of ported guitar cabs, I gave this one a go. Thanks to BFG, he went with this idea and made one of the best cabs I have.

It is inspired by some of the ported stuff that came from Hermida, Rivera, and Emperor cabs. We even tried to come as close to a Vader ported 215 look.

Here are the specs:
-13 ply Voidless Baltic Birch
-Lap joints
-Horizontally divided into separate enclosures for the drivers
-27"x27"x14"
-Mesa Boogie style tolex
-16 gauge grill
-4 ports tuned for the Legends Fs
-Eminence Legends V12
-8 ohms mono, 16 ohms stereo
-240 watts handling power
-65lbs
-Loud as f.

And the Build pics:

Even looks good with the little Katana.

And the sound?

I like it! It is at par to ported 2x12s from Port City and Genz Benz that I have tried. Somehow, this cab is much tighter sounding than my Genz Benz GFlex. I can hear the difference that the bass of the Gflex is more open. This cab however sounds more aggressive and the sound dispersion is far superior compared to my horizontal cabs. It's not at all beamy and your sound doesn't change when you walk to different parts of the room.

Always been a fan of Eminence Legends V12. These do sound in the ballpark of V30s but not as close as people will tell you. They have more chunk and more frequencies to work with. They have a mid spike but it is not as prominent as a V30. It is very smooth and pleasant to the ear. Tames out fizziness and with 120w power handling per speaker, it works well with high wattage power amps that I use for my AX8 rig.

The vertical BFG is damn loud and the whole thing just resonates. No rattles so far. Will have to gig with this more so I can see how roadworthy it will be. But as far as I can touch and see, the build is superb. No glue marks. The grill fits like a glove. Screws and wiring are all tight.

I'm very happy with this even though it ended up costing a bit more than I expected due to shipping. BFG price is very reasonable and is at par with the pricing (and quality) from Avatar or Mojotone.

Build time was 1 and a half months.

You can contact BFG cabs at Facebook if you want custom cabs done.

Great looking cab man. BFG makes excellent cabs. Great dude too. Glad it worked out well. I ran my 5150 through my BFG 2x12 (non-ported, as you know) and it’s beastly.

You have certainly grabbed my attention here!

Cab looks great and the build time is excellent. I've been pondering if I should try to track down an old Mesa Halfback 2x12 or just go full bore and have someone make a custom Thiele TL806Q (the Thiele 4x12). I think I may be leaning towards the 806Q and BFG may get an email from me to see what they offer overall.

Is the back completely sealed or screwed on?

Look up BFG Cabs on FB and message him there. You can see some pics of his work. It’s stellar. He can make what you’re describing. When I ordered my cab he asked if I wanted it swappable between open and closed back. It’s full custom.

My cab arrived a couple days short of one month after ordering, but I’m not sure if that is because my cab was a simple closed back, one chamber design or because he wasn’t quite as busy at the time, or a combination.

I highly recommend him.

Just get him the plans of the cab you wish to make. Bfg can make copies to spec. Build time was great even though he had a lot on his plate when i ordered.

Back is screwed on. But the cab is front loaded.

Looks great. Why is it chambered though?

Found out that if it is ported vertically, it would sound weird if I just use the top speaker for practice. It's like you have too much thump. And if I do stereo, it sounds like there's echoing stuff cris-crossing the ports. It's like you are mixing signals, and there is some sort of cross talk.

This is also why you see chambering from Accugroove, Hermida, and Rivera with their vertical cabs.

Here’s a pic of my custom 2x12. Had it made to aesthetically match my real Mesa 2x12 vertical cab because I was using the Invective and TC-50 in stereo (I’m not anymore—sold the TC-50).

Here’s another pic showing the width difference between the narrower Mesa and the wider BFG.

I'm tempted to sell my horizontal cabs and get a smaller vertical for the small amps.

I actually did exactly that. Sold a pair of horizontal cabs and got a vertical 212. Then I ended up selling the Mark V:25 and the TC-50 so I recently sold my Mesa vertical 212. Now I just have the BFG and a Mesa 4x12 Recto.
