It's not difficult transcribing to different positions on the guitar. Tedious, though.

Transcribing conventional guitar yes. Transcribing something not written with a guitar no. It's probably the most difficult thing you can do on guitar because it creates impossible playing positions, string/fret jumps and fingering. You then have the dilemma of trying to maintain the original melody while making it playable. This is the hardest part cause you can quickly lose the original idea just by shifting octaves, never mind having to cut out certain notes. That can be fine when you are transcribing a piano piece for fun but in this case I'm sure Hannes wanted it as close as possible. If Kevin still checks here maybe he could chime in.

Basically, Hannes sent me tabs with no palm mute indications and unplayable fingerings.

I thought he was given unperformable tabs. I haven't watched the video so I am probably not understanding properly.

Transcribing between instruments is a great deal more difficult, I agree with that.

I used to have to do the same in my old band. My vocalist/keyboard player would sometimes come up with stuff on his keys, and use the keyboard layout in guitar pro to try and write guitar parts. Some of it was the most insane shit

I generally dislike technical filler like "casino" sweeps. Oddly enough, I find the second part of the solo most interesting. Especially when those SNES SFX style "taking damage" pull ups and "boss level" sweeps come in :D
Lmao tell me more about the "casino sweep"

Kevin dropped a playthrough video. I'm just going to think of this as Necrophagist album 3 where Hannes kept then band going. Maybe I've just listened to so many of Kevin's videos but first time I heard this I thought the playing(attack and muting) sounded like him. No surprise he was the man for this job.

"My job was not just recording the guitars, but also arranging them into something playable, including all articulations and fingerings. Basically, Hannes sent me tabs with no palm mute indications and unplayable fingerings. Some of them resembled something playable, others were just numbers on strings, that had to be rearranged completely."

🤯

Not only is Kevin arranging everything and playing it impressive, but the fact that Hannes writes the music like this is amazing too. To be able to write that stuff as anon-guitarist is immense.

But now that Kevin made Necrophagist, I'm waiting for Mohammad to cover it 120% speed.

Also the whole EP is good - it's almost like a tribute to multiple bands Hannes was in. The Blotted Science song with Fountainhead is good too, assuming you like Blotted Science.

Never knew Hannes was an Ultimate Guitar user.
