Loving projects as I do, I've been wanting to do a Jimi Hendrix's inspired strat for a while. While I think the current Fender signature model is a great guitar, I wanted to go all the way, meaning to get a lefty strat and flip it to right handed.
Toke the 09-46s from a set of 8 strings and I'm setting it up now. Some buzz artifacts, and the earth wire does not seem to be nicely soldered to the claw (there is some static with my hand sliding up and down the strings, but not if I touch the wire/claw with my other hand?) but the pickups sound good. The reverse angle bridge pickup really does make all the difference.
The pots have horrible tapper (tone pots are like ON at 10-2 and OFF at 1-0) so I may get a prewired wiring kit, and even a better pickup set if I really connect with the guitar.
For now I don't have a trem bar, but the seller promised to mail it later. If not I'll have to source one from Axes'R'Us. Oh, and gotta fing a way to move the strap button to the other cutaway!
