I found this great deal on an Ibanez RG2228A. Better yet, it was already fit with a set of Bare Knuckle Aftermaths. In a colour that reeks of porn.
It's been quite some time since I last owned an Ibanez Prestige model. It's my first guitar with BKP's as well. My now-dethroned workhorse is an RGA8 that I loaded with a D-Activator 8 coupled with a PAF8 in the neck. It sounds great but the Aftermaths. Simply. Destroy. It could be the difference in quality of the guitars' builds, body woods or pickups - whatever the reason, the RG2228A sounds impeccable. I've always wanted that mid heavy growl. I just found it. And the articulation is just over my head. I can hear every single little mistake in my playing. I love it.
I noticed I wanted to back off the gain on all my RGA8 tones with this guitar whilst still retaining more punch than ever.
Many seem to wonder how the neck feels. Compared to my RGA8, the Prestige neck feels narrower and maybe even more fluid; you can definitely tell the radius makes a difference. It really reminds me of the neck on the Prestige RG1527 I used to own - a neck that I loved but I prefer the feel and width of the eight-string. I've grown to like the RGA8 neck but once I get used to this new profile it'll probably make the cheaper model seem even more cheaper. One thing is for sure: I could never set the action on the RGA8 as low as it already is on the RG2228A.
I know you guys love excess amounts of high resolution pics, so I'm sorry for the lack of the proper stuff. I took these last night in the dark - couldn't be bothered to take them in the daytime, I was too busy working and... feeling the aftermath. And truth be told the weather wasn't too good. If the demand is high, I'll take some outdoor pics that do the guitar justice when I see fit.
Let's begin with a couple of teasers with the flash on:
These following pics are actually long exposure HDR photos - like I said, it was night dark and I didn't want to use the horrible indoor lightning. Unfortunately they didn't turn out too well.
The only improvement I could think of is swapping the pickups for white ones with a white straplock and changing the tuners to white ones. But I don't mind this combination at all.
I'll give more insight to this guitar once I've spent some private quality time with it.
