Bought this as a gift for dad, now that I'm home we're finally getting round to finishing it.

It's a kit for semi-hollow jazz style guitar, link here

Done for the day, hopefully applying the first layer of stain tomorrow.
For the curious amongst you, it's see-through black with a matte finish & some sides left natural :)

Prepped the stain.

Staining sides first to avoid the stain running on the face.

Now time for the oil. First applied to sides.

Then top.

Since i get asked this a fair bit, it's a mineral oil used for satin/natural furniture finishes.

A whole day later, steel wool sanding.

Which is when i notice this c**k-up :

Damn tape must have not been properly...well, taped. :wallbash:
Took an hour of sanding as I had the same thing happen at the headstock too.

We then decided it was overall a little too bland, so a layer of patina was added :

Cherry on the back.

The patina would leave the wood brown, so immediately after application, a dry cloth was used to wipe away the excess, so it only makes the grain more visible and brings a subtle warmth to the wood.

Black patina on the front for deeper contrast in the grain. Wiped away as before.
