My favorite 7-string neck pickups are the Bare Knuckle 'Miracle Man' or 'Cold Sweat' neck models. I also like the Seymour Duncan Jazz and the D-Activator neck model sounds really cool in the Xiphos 7 anyways.

I really love Gibson neck pickups but that doesn't really apply here I suppose :)

For actives I'd say EMG 707tw. My favorite passive neck pickup has always been a SD 59-7.

I've tried both the Duncan 59-7 and Jazz-7 and they're both great. The '59 can get a little woolly at times, but if you back it off the strings a bit more it helps tame it. The Jazz-7 is just awesome. Super-clear with a nice "bong" sound to the low strings.

Dimarzio PAF7s (the ones the K-7s come with) but unfortunately I believe this pickup is only available on the K-7, but it soure sounds great!

Would help a bit if you said more about what kind of guitar you have; What kind of wood combo it is [Body and neck], neck thru or bolt on, etc. Also what kind of music you play.

Dimarzio sells the PAF7 just like all their other seven string pups...

Dimarzio Air Norton 7 and the Bareknuckle Cold Sweat 7 are both awesome neck pups. I've also heard good things about the Duncan Jazz but have never tried one.

The Bareknuckle Coldsweat is my favorite neck pickup yet, before that it was the DiMarzio PAF Pro (no seven model though) the closest i could get to that in non import (or custom) pickups was the SD Jazz or 59.

all the above mentioned pickups are smooth when you need it have a good bite when you need it and are really clear and articulate.

BareKnuckle ColdSweat. It's easily the best neck pickup I've ever used.:agreed:
I like the Jazz and the 59 as well (but the Coldsweat sounds like Tim took
the best from each of them and made it into one pickup), so I just look to
that.

I've got a Jazz in the neck of my 7620 and it sounds very good.
I didn't know if it would work well in basswood, but it does.
(Miracle in the bridge , what a killer combo)
I've never tried an Air Noton, but I've heard nothing but good
things about them.
