My wallet got busted a couple of weeks ago... :D Ultra should be here soon & I cannot wait! I was quite impressed with the 'cynic' clip thats floating around, what do you know about this one? is it DI? If so, it's very good... There's just no way I can get away with cranking a tube amp at home, so I'm hoping this things gonna be a godsend. Being able to run two amps at once is exciting enough, let alone the rest of it...

I just did a gig this weekend with my Standard rig after updating the firmware and retweaking all my patches and it was the best tone I've ever had!

I'm seriously considering getting an Ultra as my effects rig and using it with my Dragon, but probably won't for at least another year, sometime when I'm out of debt.

I don't think it would be complete overkill. My main beef with all my effects rigs with the Dragon right now is that it's making my tone over processed and digital sounding. It's not too bad if I keep my effects mix around 6 or so. I'm some glad I have that parallel effects loop now  The Axe might have better Analog->Digital conversion and vice versa.

i really want one for the effects... maybe i´ll like the amp models as well, but i primarily want the awesome effects that they have on there. i´d probably piss my panties upon seeing all the options, but still :p

I am currently trying to convince my wife to let me buy an ultra. I need one of these things so bad.

I am convinced that reason why there aren't many metal clips of the fractals boils down to this.

-The majority of people that are buying them are the "blues hound rich lawyer" or the "U2 inspired me to live doctor" simply because they can afford them no problem.(yes, that is a sweeping generalization but oh well) As with the podxt, every Tom, Dick and Harry could afford one. Every once in while though, a metalhead will buy a fractal but this is like 1 for 14 fractals bought. So when people say that the fractal can't do metal, think of this: Most people haven't learned how yet. That pretty much has to do with the lack of metal dudes playing them which relates to a lack of good metal patches. Sharing patches is a good thing ;) With other people's patches, you learn how and what works and tricks that you would have never thought of other wise.

With that being said, I have found a metal band that does use the fractals with nice results.

I put myself on their waiting list like 6 weeks ago, for an Ultra, and I got a mail yesterday that it was on its way .... just when I gave in on some deal that was too good to pass on last week.

And now I'm broke :wallbash:

I don't think I'm sold on the Ultra. The standard pretty much does more than I need

more clips, don't know if someone posted these here yet...

"Clawfinger," Axe FX user..
http://www.falstudios.com/axe-fx_test/Guitar_test-Feb08.mp3
quad tracked Gibson LP Barytone with a T500 pickup tuned to drop A. Just random chugg-riffs lined up after each other. Two guitars through an old Marshall JCM800 LEAD from 1986, miced with a AKG 414 and two guitars through the Line6 cab with the Ribbon.

and

Line6 4x12 cab miced with a cheap ribbon. I have a limiter on the master buss, hence the compression. Dual tracked with a stock Gibson SG in drop D tuning.

no idea who/where..

So many clips.. tons of "sounds like U2" clips on youtube, plus this guy made several clips; explain it, another playing thru it, and then several showing how using the computer editor works... very, very sweet.

Ultra for me over Standard 'cause it will do double/triple duty as outboard for mixdown. Poor girl's Eventide Orville ;) (or is it?)

I would only use it for effects and I'd get an Ultra. The Standard is pretty much maxed out as far as effects and can't really get anymore updates or anything. Being a computer guy, I never want to run my shit at 100%, there has to be some wiggle room

You can absolutely do metal. I'm convinced you could do just about anything with it. You just have to put the parts together, they're all in there. You have a whole bunch of high gain amp models, advanced parameters to tweak, drive and distortion pedals to throw in front of them, eq's available before and after the amps, dual amps at once, etc.

It may not have all the amps that you'd want in it (yet) but with the advanced parameters you could come pretty fucking close to building what you wanted.
