Just came across this announcement from NAMM

And they got Devin Townsend to help design/promote it.

As expected.

It's heavy. It's expensive. It's not actually 2600 watts (peak vs. continuous). The frequency response is unimpressive and the array pattern is going to make it overly directional, just like a 4x12.

But it's got the cheapest OEM IR loader built in and it looks like a guitar cab.

Off topic, they also revamped the Ironheart line. Only the 30, 60 and 120 watt versions now and they're all UK made with heftier price tags. Revamped boost circuit to get rid of low end mud apparently. Let's see how demos sound.

More speakers moving air is always better.

It's funny to watch the almost wussification of modern guitar players on multiple forums now hating on a 4x12. We're supposed to want a wall of them on stage not whine about how heavy they are.

It's 10 lbs lighter than my orange and has a 2600 watt amp. I still think I'd prefer a tube power section but I would def check this out.

You're right. It's manly as fuck to pay an extra $1000 for $200 in off the shelf IR and class D amp tech.

I'd take a regular cab over this too, and I'm just a sissy that can't handle those big mean 412s anymore.

You guys pay full msrp for gear?!?

I got my orange used for 500 bucks. Saying I'd never buy something bc of the brand new suggested retail price is kinda a bad argument.

BTW what did you pay for that fractal lol?

If you paid near $2-3k for your modeler and run it into one of those cheapo $200 dollar frfrs that's kinda dumb too.

This is $1800 MAP homeslice.

This basically is one of those shitty cheapo FRFR cabs, only they're asking $1800 and hoping you're too dumb to know the difference between peak and continuous wattage or frequency response and are amazed by IR loaders in 2024.

I don't know about everyone else, but I usually keep my amps & cabs parked with their backs against the wall. They couldn't put the power switch & volume pot anywhere but the center-back?

I'm confused, why would we want to run IRs through this? If I'm gonna get a powered cab, I'd want regular guitar speakers and then run an IR'd signal to FOH ? If Im gonna be hearing an IR through both I'd just save my money.

Maybe it'll sound good but...meh. Didn't like their 212 when I tried it although it was far from an ideal situation to try it. Still, this thing isn't even stereo capable? No thanks. I'll stick with my Fender FR12 and pair of EV PXM-12s which sounds absolutely massive.

To be fair, posting the peak vs. other measures of stuff like this is very common in the industry, which is why you usually need to look at the manual to see what all the ratings are, how it's configured, etc. to see if you're being marketed to, or if the product is legit.

Wattage in general is a shitty way to gauge much of anything...except maybe price.

The companies that compete for the commercial side of PA equipment tend to be more honest and post more specs more freely than those hoping to sell on marketing alone.
