Weight Loss ideas ?

I’ve had to make it a discipline thing. It’s not a body image issue or anything like that, I simply don’t find much enjoyment in eating food and despite cooking professionally for 1/3rd of my life, I currently hate it.

I had to figure out how I could spend 30 minutes prepping food for the week so it’d only take me 10 minutes to get it all cooked, while still being healthy. I just buy big packages of chicken, trim all the fat then toss it in ziplock bags with different marinades. Now I just toss the veggies in the oven, turn the grill on and move on with life!
Sadly im an opposite , i love food , especially Junk , but im convincing myself more and more that the bad food is doing nothing just hurting me both mentally and phisically.
I can feel i was very addicted to sugar , but since 3 weeks im over it.

Perfect example of my inconsistency- I had this past Friday off and have a TON of songs to learn for a cover band I joined. I meal prepped Thurs night so all I had to do over the weekend was throw chicken on the grill or dressing on a salad.

Work today? Totally forgot about prepping lunch or bringing my yogurt.

I've been steering clear of this thread, but what the hell.

I don't know if I'm an authority on "short term" weight loss, if I needed to cut 10 pounds in the next 2 months I think it would be hard.

But, I'm also - and this is coming off my off season where I probably put 5lbs or so back on - at least 20lbs lighter than where I was 10 years ago and even at my heaviest - recovering from surgery, limited mobility - since then I've never gotten within 10lbs of that peak ever since. No right answers here, probably, but this is what's worked for me.

1) Find some form of exercise you enjoy, if possible something with a performance component so you'll want to get better at it, and do it. I tried to lose weight by running early on, and just hated it. Couldn't make myself want to do it. I spent a lot of time on a bike as a kid tough, so I bought a road bike, and never looked back. I got more competitive with time, now race gravel and do competitive focused endurance road events, and I'vbe averaged at least an hour a day for the last five or six years. I genuinely enjoy being in the saddle at baseline, and want to get faster, so I want to do it. Bonus points, the fastest way to climb faster is to weigh less, so it's an added incentive.

2) I think "clean eating" is by and large bullshit, but at least be a little thoughtful about what you eat. "Food is fuel" is a very useful mindset. There are very few things that are straight up BAD for you - even high sugar foods have their time and their place, and one of the true joys of extreme endurance cycling is walking into a gas station and looking around for the most calorically dense food in the place and buying three. But, in general, if you eat a lot of high sugar and simple carb foods (and I'm team carb, believe me), then you're getting a ton of calories in a form that doesn't really fill you up for very long. Even things like cutting out soda will go a long way here, unless its specifically in the context of keeping your blood sugar up during an endurance event or something (mini cans of coke are a staple of long cycling events, and they're fucking awesome for it). alcohol is a big source of empty calroies too, and unlike a can of coke don't really help on a long ride. :lol:

3) the older I get the more I feel like training is about balancing recovery more than it is about working out, and your ability to be ready the next day is the limiting factor. In some ways, paradoxically, if "calories out" is going to be part of yur weight loss plan, knowing when to take a rest day and just simple stuff like prioritizing getting good nights' sleep goes a long way.

Changed my life, dumped sugar , move more , do sports , do not reward myself with Fastfood and Candies , i got rid of ALL sugar drinks - just ZERO one's in case i really crave it.
I feel better, i sleep better , and im less tired. Gonna do another 12k to smooth myself out.
For anybody wondering , dang its worth it

It's also occured to me recently that, if you really want to focus on low-hanging fruit, it's probably easier for me to cut weight than it is to materially increase my power output at lactate threshold on the bike, and that while by American standards I'm fairly fit (about 186 at 6', carrying a LOT of leg muscle), I could plausibly take 10-15lbs off, and from a power-to-weight standpoint that's equivalent to going from my current 320w to 350w, which would be - realistically - several years worth of work. So, I don't know how hard I'm going to really work at it, but I'm going to try to get under 180, at least, in the next few months.

I hear yah. When I was rock climbing I got down into the mid 170's, and the improvement was pretty drastic coming from upper 180's. Even if I did lose a bit of muscle, the performance benefits were worth it.

Update , loss stopped ( lol ). Dont know why but there is no loss since week , despiting i havent changed anything :0.
Any tips how to get out of Plateau ?

Over what amount of time? Weight fluctuates - just because the scale reads the same doesn't mean your physical composition hasn't improved in some other way. If you've been in a pattern that works for you, I'd just wait it out and see if the improvements continue on their own.

Have patience. Maybe you're gaining some muscle, maybe your body is getting used to your new habits, or you may have to tweak your diet and / or exercise routine in the future.

When you lose lots of weight in a short time your body will fight against it. It's normal, be patient and keep working. You won't lose weight every week, you may even gain some. But I'm sure you look and feel better now.

what has helped me is just thinking in termd of health vs weight loss. eating organic, low inflammation food is great for depression and anxiety. sugar and alcohol terrible for it. and a good workout helps so much to level me out. helps regulate sleep and diet. one of those things you “know” but becomes really obvious when you get older. sugar was harder for me to drop than alcohol lol. i drink a lot of tea at night and read

Just guessing and without knowing more about your approach, but more likely than not whatever disequilibrium you'd created to create a calorie deficit has closed and you're back in equiliberum. If you were losing weight by increasing your calorie burn through exercise, or if you were doing it through calorie restrition, you've probably hit a point where your body's resting calorie burn has lowered to the point that the calorie deficit you've been running is back to neutral.

Work out more, eat less, or both. Or it's possible you've just hit a good neutral weight for your body, and maybe it doens't make sense to push past that. Who knows.

Or, it's possible this is just routine variation in weight obscuring a continued drop, and it'll resume.

You should be running BCAAs/Glutamibe, HMB, creatine and isolate religiously. If you hit a plateau I highly suggest adding some 1,4-andro and a little Half Wicked YK11.

On my end, from a high of about 191 in February, while yesterday's 182 was an anomaly driven by not hydrating/rehydrating well enough during a two hour endurance pace (well, until I hammered the last two to make sure I finished before daylight, lol) hill repeat workout, I'm down to a sustained 184 or so maybe 4 lbs below where I was at the start of March when I started thinking seriously about actually targeting a weight reduction. I'm not doing much beyond better portion control, cutting alcohol a bit, and snacking less between meals, so it's been gradual and pretty painless.

I've got a HUGE block of climbing on vacation coming up in early June, and I'd love to be at/below 180 for that as it'll save me a lot of suffering over two back to back 11,000+ foot days. :lol:
