    Making My/Your Own Guitar Cables

Very interesting. I've seen all those product #'s for bulk cable but didn't know how (or if) they mapped to Overdrive, Gold, and Platinum, etc. Good to know! Hard to believe I'll be making what equates to an $80+ cable for about $15 (obviously, not counting my time/effort, no warranty, etc).

    Making My/Your Own Guitar Cables

Sweet. If you find that, do post it here. I have connectors, but I'm waiting to pull the trigger on cable (I'm not in a hurry). I'll continue my own searching as well to see if I can turn them up. To my knowledge, this is all that's available from Mogami in bulk...

    Making My/Your Own Guitar Cables

So, when searching for Mogami bulk cable... I can't find Gold, Platinum, etc. Those designators seems to only apply to their consumer (pre-made) cables. Am I missing something?

    Making My/Your Own Guitar Cables

Thanks for the suggestions all. I hadn't heard of the Sommer's cable (I'm only creating guitar leads, not patch or pedalboard cables), so I'll check 'em out. I was leaning toward the Mogami 2524 for cable with either Switchcraft or Neutrik plugs, but I'm still open to alternatives. I'll check...

    Making My/Your Own Guitar Cables

I'm going to start making my own guitar cables (partly because I finally bought a good soldering station... and now I'm soldering everything in sight). I'm a little out-of-the-loop on what's good bulk cable, plugs, etc. Obviously, there's a lot out there and it all looks pretty good, so I'm...

FS Custom Chrome-Top DiMarzio Illuminator 7 Bridge (One of a Kind / Special Order)

Bump. This is still available, as well as the Ionizer 7 Neck I mentioned that also has a matching chrome-top.

    Pickup Height for Metal

I use the typical rule of 2-3mm from the strings (while fretted at the 24th fret) as my general starting point, then adjust by-ear based on the pickup's characteristics. I've gone a little closer than 2mm, and have gone a bit farther away than 3mm... just depends. 90% of the time though, I end...

Wiring diagram: Ibanez RGD 7 string (volume only, 2 humbuckers, 3 way 4PDT 12 pin switch)

To chime-in on the comments about the overkill 3-way switch: Installed a standard Gibson-style toggle as part of some rewiring I did on my RGD3127, and didn't like the feel of the switch at all. It was too tall, and too easy to change. Given it's location, I kept inadvertently hitting it and...

Question for the Kiesel Vader Owners

Thanks for all that info. Love your design too--very similar to what I have in my head (I love an understated, stealthy looking aesthetic). Are your fretboards Richlite? I would love to check one out before pulling the trigger on one, but that's not realistic... unless I just happen to get...

Question for the Kiesel Vader Owners

Dammit, that's what I was afraid of. I'd have constant issues with moving the trem with my leg... as well as actually using the trem (again, because it's resting on my damn leg). This makes me sad :(

Question for the Kiesel Vader Owners

I'm gassing pretty bad for a Vader 7 (and, they're on sale right now!), but am worried about something related to this particular body design: My Vader would have a floating trem. However, I sit in the Classical position 100% of the time when I play, with the guitar perched on my elevated left...

    Wanted: Great Sci-Fi Book Recommendations

Looking for some good Sci-Fi book recommendations. I like when people surprise me with something I might not have heard/thought of. I haven't read a ton of Sci-Fi, but enough that it would take me too long to try and list out all I've read thus far, so just list your favorite(s) here and I'll...
