First time poster, long time lurker.

As a teenager, the one guitarist that made me want to save up and buy a guitar (instead of wasting it on Playstation games) was Trey Azagthoth. He was such a badass. Not the cleanest player ever, but always looked like he was having fun and didn't give a shit. Also, ridiculous riffage. He'll always make any list like this for me.

The rest:
Zakk Wylde (kind of the same boat as Trey, one of my favorites when I first started playing)
Paul Masvidal (so unappreciated it's not even funny)
James Murphy
Jeff Loomis
Petrucci (more for the solo and older DT stuff, I don't like DT past 6 Degrees)
Muhammed Suicimez
Fredrik Thordendal
Erik Rutan
Andy LaRoque

Bands:
Nevermore
Nile
Morbid Angel
Meshuggah
Opeth
Mastodon
Darkane (very underrated band)
Necrophagist
Testament
Aghora
Hate Eternal (that's 11, but I've been really into them lately, the new album destroys)

Fredrik Thordendal/Meshuggah. More the songs than the lead playing, as he rips off Holdsworth a whole helluva lot, but his music is thee shit. Sol Niger is fucking GREAT.
